Position Overview

The Engineering Manager, MDM will lead a team of developers responsible for the ongoing development, support, and enhancement of our enterprise Master Data Management (MDM) platform. This is a hands-on technical leadership role — the Engineering Manager will personally design solutions, write and review code, estimate work from loosely defined requirements, and solve complex technical problems — while also managing team delivery and performance.

This role operates under a "you build it, you support it" model — there is no separation between development and support teams. The Engineering Manager is accountable for platform stability, sprint delivery, code quality, SLA compliance, and team performance across customer, supplier, contact, and item domains.

The successful candidate must be a seasoned technical problem-solver first and a people manager second. They will work closely with the MDM Architect (who drives technical direction and design authority) and the Program Manager (who drives roadmap, stakeholder communication, and cross-functional coordination).

Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and manage a team of developers supporting and enhancing the MDM platform
  • Conduct sprint planning, prioritization, and ensure consistent monthly sprint delivery
  • Perform code reviews to maintain high code quality standards
  • Hire, onboard, and rapidly build capability in new team members
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement
  • Enforce the "you build it, you support it" model — ensure developers own their features through production support
  • Drive technical debt reduction and code optimization initiatives
  • Monitor and report on platform KPIs and team performance metrics
  • Work with platform vendors to drive open product issues to closure

Platform Development, Enhancement & Support

  • Lead the design and development of new MDM capabilities and features
  • Personally design solutions for complex problems and estimate effort from loosely defined requirements
  • Evaluate user stories, establish story points, and create delivery schedules
  • Oversee requirements gathering, design, development, and testing activities
  • Ensure adherence to software development best practices across the full SDLC
  • Manage incident resolution within established SLAs
  • Triage and resolve complex data issues spanning multiple systems
  • Oversee change management processes and ensure smooth deployments
  • Conduct post-production validation and manage release reversals when needed
  • Drive platform enhancements to improve stability and operational efficiency
  • Lead large-scale data migrations and bulk update operations in the MDM environment
  • Onboard new systems, organizations, and datasets to the MDM platform
  • Handle complex data reconciliation and synchronization across systems

Platform Migration & Modernization

  • Lead the technical execution of MDM modernization
  • Plan and execute phased migration strategy ensuring zero data loss and minimal business disruption
  • Design and validate data mapping between legacy and target platforms
  • Ensure feature parity and regression testing throughout migration phases

  • Design and think through complex testing scenarios for platform changes
  • Lead unit testing, system integration testing, UAT, and non-functional testing efforts
  • Maintain and execute regression test cases during significant platform changes
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment
  • Conduct DR (Disaster Recovery) testing and ensure business continuity
  • Debug, refactor, and rewrite code to improve performance and maintainability

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure security best practices are followed across all platform development
  • Oversee static and dynamic code analysis to identify and remediate vulnerabilities
  • Ensure SOX compliance for all platform changes and controls
  • Maintain secure coding standards and conduct security reviews as required
