Team Overview
The Network Geography Analyst team is responsible for researching and maintaining the data that powers TransUnion’s IP Intelligence solutions. By analyzing internet infrastructure and network data, the team helps ensure the accuracy of IP geolocation information used across TransUnion products and services. This role reports directly to the Senior Manager, Data Analytics and plays a key role in supporting data quality and product reliability for our customers. This is a remote position which may require occasional in-person attendance at work-related events at the discretion of management.Role Overview And Core Responsibilities
- Conduct research and analysis of internet infrastructure data to determine the geographic location of IP networks and related internet assets.
- Evaluate multiple data sources and network indicators to improve the accuracy and coverage of TransUnion’s geolocation database.
- Ensure the quality, integrity, and consistency of IP geolocation data through ongoing validation and monitoring activities.
- Investigate networking trends, service providers, routing information, and network topology to support geolocation decisions.
- Analyze large datasets to identify anomalies, data quality issues, and opportunities for database improvements.
- Document research methodologies, findings, and recommendations to support knowledge sharing and operational consistency.
- Collaborate with team members and cross-functional stakeholders to enhance geolocation products, processes, and data accuracy.
- Use analytical tools and databases to extract, manipulate, and interpret data that supports business and product objectives.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve workflows, research techniques, data quality, and operational processes.
- Develop subject matter expertise in IP geolocation and internet infrastructure to support TransUnion’s IP Intelligence capabilities.
Required Knowledge And Experiences
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in data analysis, including working with large and complex datasets to generate insights and support business decisions.
- Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals, including network topology, routing concepts, protocols, and internet service providers, to support geolocation research and data validation.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, or a related technical field; equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience will also be considered.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to evaluate multiple data points and make informed decisions regarding internet geography and network locations.
- Experience conducting research, documenting findings, and presenting conclusions in a clear and structured manner.
- Proficiency in SQL (Structured Query Language) for querying, analyzing, and validating data.
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting, and data quality management.
- Experience using Google BigQuery for large-scale data analysis and investigation.
- Ability to manipulate, analyze, and interpret large datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and improvement opportunities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
