Team Overview
TransUnion Overview:The Data Strategy team at TransUnion partners with clients, media agencies, and internal cross-functional teams to enable data-driven decision-making through scalable data solutions. The team is responsible for managing complex data ecosystems, ensuring data quality, and translating business needs into actionable data strategies. This role reports to the Manager of Data Strategy. This is a remote position which may require occasional in-person attendance at work-related events at the discretion of management.
Role Overview And Core Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical data liaison between clients and internal service teams to ensure alignment on data requirements and delivery.
- Gather and translate business and technical requirements into detailed data specifications that support client use cases.
- Lead discussions with client data owners and media agency partners to identify relevant data sources and systems.
- Acquire, integrate, and validate data from multiple sources using internal tools and cloud-based platforms, ensuring high data quality.
- Manage multiple concurrent data workflows across diverse client accounts, ensuring timely delivery and accuracy.
- Investigate and resolve data issues such as missing fields, mismatches, and inconsistencies, providing actionable insights.
- Develop and maintain database curation and data stack solutions for 80+ global clients, handling 100 to 2,500 data feeds per client.
- Drive operational efficiencies by optimizing data processes and solving complex technical challenges across systems.
- Collaborate with data science, consulting, and product teams to deliver integrated data solutions.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders by providing status updates, documenting work, and escalating blockers when needed.
Required Knowledge And Experiences
- Structured Data Concepts (tables, joins, schemas, data flows): Essential for designing accurate data models and translating requirements into technical specifications.
- Data Management & ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) frameworks: Critical for understanding how data moves across systems and ensuring data quality across pipelines.
- Marketing/Agency/Data Integration experience (1–3 years): Provides context for client needs and enables effective communication with stakeholders in marketing and analytics environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in an analytics-related field (Business, Marketing, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science) or equivalent experience: Ensures foundational analytical and technical knowledge.
- Data quality and diagnostic skills: Necessary to identify issues, troubleshoot datasets, and propose scalable solutions.
Required Technical Skills
- SQL (Structured Query Language): Required for querying, manipulating, and analyzing structured datasets.
- Data Visualization tools (Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Superset, PowerPoint): Used to communicate insights and data trends to stakeholders.
- APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) & JSON (JavaScript Object Notation): Needed for integrating and exchanging data between systems.
- Data investigation and validation processes: Essential for identifying anomalies and ensuring data integrity.
- Workflow and documentation tools (Jira, Confluence): Required for tracking work and documenting processes.
Preferred Skills
- Python or scripting for data manipulation: Helps automate workflows and improve efficiency.
- Process improvement mindset: Enables continuous optimization of data workflows.
- Experience working with ambiguous requirements: Supports adaptability in complex environments.
- Advanced diagnostic and problem-solving skills: Accelerates issue resolution.
- Experience creating technical documentation: Ensures consistency and scalability across projects.
