An individual contributor who will serve as a hands-on technical member of the SMAI Platform Engineering team. In this role, you will help build, operate, and maintain the platforms that power Micron's analytics and AI workloads. You will contribute to platform reliability and scalability through day-to-day engineering, collaborative problem solving, and close partnership with solution architects, project teams, and cross-functional partners.
Key Responsibilities
Team
  • Collaborate with a global platform team and customer base
  • Communicate clearly both written and verbally with customers, stakeholders, and vendors.

Service Enablement & Innovation
  • Stay updated on platform roadmaps and upcoming changes through regular communication with vendors and public forums.
  • Collaborate with solution architects to evaluate and adopt new tools and features that accelerate technical solution delivery.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new services and features following SMAI Enablement and Architecture Review Board (ARB) guidelines.
  • Document findings, share insights with platform team members, and contribute structured feedback to vendors.
  • Apply established and emerging techniques to improve performance and optimization of platform workloads.
  • Contribute to the design of systems spanning IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) - and help diagram and communicate designs with peers and customers.

Platform Support & Operations
  • Maintain a high standard of service by promptly addressing customer requests with a professional, customer-first attitude and practicing disciplined change management.
  • Document standard operating procedures (SOPs), best practices, and known limitations for the platform team and its customers.
  • Partner with SMAI project teams to optimize solutions, including recommending appropriate services for performance, scalability, and extensibility.
  • Proactively identify inefficiencies through monitoring solutions to help optimize platform costs and resource utilization.
  • Stay informed about new services and features on supported platforms, contributing to evaluations of their applicability to SMAI workloads.
  • Help develop and enhance platform metrics and observability to surface performance bottlenecks and error-prone patterns.
  • Collaborate with partner teams (Cloud, Unix, Network) to ensure smooth end-to-end operations.
  • Work alongside SMAI solution architects and enablement teams to support common services, tools, and reusable patterns.
  • Deploy repeatable infrastructure with Terraform.
  • Contribute to AI solutions that simplify and automate business workflows.

Security
  • Adhere to security standards to protect Micron's intellectual property and sensitive manufacturing data.
  • Implement platform and data security controls, including Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and other industry-standard security frameworks.

Qualifications
Required
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 2-4 years of experience in Platform Administration and/or Cloud Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience administering and operating Apache Kafka - including topic management, consumer group monitoring, broker configuration, and troubleshooting streaming pipelines.
  • Solid working experience with Kubernetes - including deploying, scaling, and troubleshooting containerized workloads in a production or near-production environment.
  • Practical experience with cloud administration on one or more public cloud platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles with hands-on experience using Terraform.
  • Familiarity with Machine Learning and Data Science concepts - sufficient to support platforms serving ML/AI workloads.
  • Familiarity with Generative AI or Agentic AI concepts and their infrastructure implications.
  • Good collaboration skills and ability to work across teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce documentation, diagrams, and technical summaries.
  • Ability to work with moderate guidance on technical projects and follow through to completion.
  • A continuous learning mindset - staying current with evolving cloud, data, and platform technologies.

Preferred
  • Strong foundation or administration of Unix.
