POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing quality instruction/officiating to the YMCA sports program, ensuring appropriate behavior of participants, parents, coaches, and other spectators during game time.  Responsible for providing equipment at sport site, assist with set-up and clean-up, and assist volunteer coaches with their needs.  Must display exemplary interaction with parents and program participants that is consistent with the YMCA mission and values. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Know and understand the philosophy of the YMCA Youth Super Sports program and the purpose of developing youth through Y programs.
  2. Prepare program site.  Set-up equipment, maintain equipment, clean-up site at conclusion and return all equipment to proper storage area.
  3. Meet and greet players, parents, and coaches and address the groups prior to game time regarding the expectations of the YMCA in regards to the Youth Sports Program.
  4. Officiate according to the guidelines and rules established by the YMCA with emphasis on YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility; and in accordance to generally accepted officiating etiquette. 
  5. Implement YMCA Character Development into all sports.
  6. Attend and participate in staff meetings and continuing job training.
  7. Visually inspect work area and equipment for safety and risk, report in writing any problems.
  8. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  9. Supports The Y’s Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Standards (HEPA), encouraging children, adults and families to adopt a healthy lifestyle and role-model standards.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum age requirement – 16 years of age.
  2. Previous experience and knowledge of sport programs, including rules, necessary skills, sportsmanship and proper use of equipment. 
  3. CPR, First Aid, & AED certifications required within 30 days of employment.
  4. Complete YMCA of the USA New Employee Orientation e-learning course.
  5. Complete YMCA Policy and Procedures for New Employees within 60 days of employment.
  6. Complete CDC course titled “Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports” (access through YMCAExchange) prior to officiating.
  7. Complete YMCA of the USA Youth Sports e-learning modules 1-6 prior to officiating.
  8. YMCA Youth Super Sports Official/Instructor Training certification or a nationally recognized certification prior to officiating preferred. 
  9. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
