What You'll Be DoingThe Special Assets Associate supports the Special Assets Team members in the underwriting, monitoring, and resolution of criticized, classified, and other heightened-risk commercial credit relationships at Stifel Bank. The Associate applies completed credit training and prior credit experience to prepare financial and credit analyses, draft credit memoranda and recommendations, and support workout strategies, risk ratings, and portfolio reporting, with review and oversight from senior team members. The Associate takes ownership of assigned analytical workstreams, exercises judgment in identifying risks and information gaps, and coordinates with borrowers and internal partners as directed. Supported relationships may include venture-backed and sponsor-supported companies.
What We're Looking For- Prepare financial-statement spreads and borrower, guarantor, liquidity, cash-flow, leverage, collateral, and repayment analyses to support the Special Assets Team in evaluating assigned relationships.
- Draft credit memoranda, periodic reviews, risk-rating recommendations, situation updates, and approval materials for amendments, extensions, forbearances, and restructurings, subject to review.
- Develop and update cash-flow, cash-runway, and recovery models; evaluate assumptions and downside scenarios, identify key credit risks, and present findings and preliminary recommendations to the Team.
- Review borrower reporting, borrowing-base information, compliance certificates, covenant compliance, payment performance, and collateral data; identify discrepancies, reporting gaps, and early warning indicators and promptly escalate concerns.
- Support nonaccrual, charge-off, specific reserve, and loss-forecast analyses by preparing supporting calculations and documentation for senior review.
- Maintain current and accurate credit files, portfolio data, reporting schedules, and action-plan trackers and follow up on outstanding items.
- Support execution of approved amendments, waivers, forbearances, restructurings, settlements, and other resolution activities by preparing analyses, coordinating documentation, and tracking conditions and deliverables, with oversight.
- Coordinate routine information requests with borrowers, relationship teams, credit, loan operations, legal, and finance with direction.
- Conduct industry, company, market, and transaction research.

- Solid understanding of financial statements, accounting fundamentals, commercial credit underwriting, cash flow, liquidity, leverage, collateral, and repayment sources.

- Minimum Required: 2+ years of relevant commercial banking, credit underwriting, credit analysis, or portfolio-management experience and completion of formal commercial credit training or an equivalent structured credit-training program.
- Preferred: Experience preparing commercial credit memoranda and financial models; exposure to special assets, distressed credits, venture-backed or sponsor-supported borrowers, or technology and life-sciences business models.
- Minimum Required: None. #L1-JK1
