About FormanceFormance builds open-source financial infrastructure. Our core product is a programmable double-entry ledger. Fintechs, crypto platforms, and financial institutions use it as the source of truth for their balances: every movement of money is recorded as a transaction between accounts, and every balance can be traced back to the postings that produced it.
Around the ledger, we connect to banks and payment providers and reconcile what the ledger records against what actually moved.
We are a team of 30+ people, mostly engineers, working across New York and Paris. Our systems support real money movement, so correctness is not optional.
What you will work onOur customers are engineering teams building financial products. They come to us with questions like “how do we track user wallets, pending funds, and fees so that every cent is accounted for?” or “what happens to our balances when a payment fails halfway through?”
You help them answer those questions, from the first technical conversation through proof of concept and into a successful transition to implementation.
Design money flows. Turn a customer's product into a ledger model: which accounts exist, how funds move between them, and how balances are queried. Typical use cases include user wallets, pending vs. settled funds, fees and revenue sharing, refunds and chargebacks, and multi-currency.
Lead the technical sale. Partner closely with our NYC sales team to run technical discovery and architecture sessions with CTOs, VPs of Engineering, and Heads of Payments. Build proofs of concept around real customer use cases and explain architectural trade-offs clearly, including what the ledger guarantees and what remains the customer's responsibility.
Build trust with technical buyers. Challenge assumptions, answer complex engineering questions, and help prospective customers evaluate how Formance fits into their existing infrastructure. You are comfortable engaging directly with senior technical decision-makers.
Support the transition to production. Work with our implementation team to ensure a smooth handover, sharing technical context, architectural decisions, and customer requirements. Stay involved when your expertise is needed to resolve complex technical questions.
Bring the field back to the product. Turn recurring customer patterns into reference models, examples, and documentation, and share structured feedback with our engineering team in Paris.
Support customers beyond the initial sale, helping with technical onboarding, implementation, and a smooth transition to ongoing customer support.
You will join a small Solutions Engineering team and work closely with our founders, NYC sales team, and engineers.
What we are looking for4+ years of experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, or technical implementation, ideally within payments, banking, fintech infrastructure, or digital assets.
A strong understanding of how money is tracked in software. You know what double-entry means in practice, or you have worked on systems where balances, transactions, and reconciliation matter.
Familiarity with real payment flows, including settlement delays, returns, partial failures, and mismatches between internal records and external providers.
Hands-on technical experience with APIs, databases, and at least one programming language.
Confidence working with technical buyers. You are comfortable leading technical conversations with engineering leaders, challenging architectural assumptions, and building credibility with highly technical stakeholders.
The ability to explain complex systems clearly to engineering, finance, and product stakeholders, and an interest in working directly with customers.
An independent approach to problem-solving. You learn unfamiliar systems quickly and use modern development tools, including AI, where they improve your work.
You have built or maintained a ledger, wallet system, or reconciliation process.
You have worked with a banking-as-a-service provider, card issuer, or core banking system.
You have supported technical evaluations, proofs of concept, or architecture discussions with prospective customers.
You have moved from a software engineering role into a customer-facing technical position.
Part of the process is a working session in which you walk us through how you would track money for a simple product, such as a marketplace with fees, refunds, and delayed payouts.
We look at how you reason about accounts, edge cases, and architectural decisions, as well as how clearly you communicate your approach.
No prior knowledge of Formance is expected.
