Our team is seeking a Software Engineer to help design, build, and support high‑performance trading systems. This role is ideal for engineers early in their careers who want meaningful ownership, exposure to complex technical problems, and the opportunity to work closely with quantitative traders and experienced engineers in a fast‑paced environment.
You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle while developing systems that are reliable, performant, and aligned with business objectives. We’re looking for engineers who are intellectually curious and motivated to continually evolve and develop.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and enhance scalable, extensible applications that support real‑time trading across multiple asset classes
- Implement, test, deploy, and maintain performance‑critical systems with a focus on reliability and correctness
- Troubleshoot and support production applications in time‑sensitive environments
- Collaborate with engineers, quantitative researchers, and project stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Write clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code that meets high quality standards
- Analyze and solve complex technical problems, balancing performance, readability, and extensibility
- Participate in code reviews and apply best practices in software design and development
- Continuously learn about trading systems, markets, and new technologies through hands‑on work and team knowledge sharing
What You'll Need
- 1–3 years of professional software development experience (or equivalent internships, co‑ops, or applied project work)
- Experience across multiple phases of the software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, and support
- Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals such as data structures, algorithms, and object‑oriented design
- Experience building performant, reliable, or highly available systems (academic, professional, or personal projects)
- Ability to reason about trade‑offs and choose appropriate tools or approaches for a given problem
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability for the systems you help build
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
- Intellectual curiosity and a desire to continuously learn and improve
What We Do
In March of 2002, Belvedere Trading emerged as Chicago’s newest market maker, soon to join the ranks of the Windy City’s elite proprietary trading firms. Armed with printouts of Excel workbooks and a team of eager minds, Belvedere established their place in the SPX pit on the floor of the Chicago Board Options Exchange. From the beginning, we have iteratively invested in our proprietary technology and made a commitment to building our software systems from the ground up. Due to our ultramodern proprietary technology and risk management capabilities, Belvedere is able to quickly capitalize on inefficiencies in the marketplace. Our trading models and software systems are continually re-engineered, optimized, and maintained to stay on top of the industry. Building and nurturing a strong culture is one of Belvedere’s highest priorities, and we are always looking for the best and brightest talent to help us in our continued success.
Why Work With Us
At Belvedere, our differences are what allow us to compete and succeed at the highest level. Our Culture Committee and Women’s Initiative elevate the voices of our teammates to further promote an inclusive workplace. It is our priority to foster a sense of community and belonging for each team member while supporting individual development.
