Leidos is looking for a Software Engineer to join our team in Anchorage, Alaska. The ideal candidate will support the FAA Weather Camera Program as the programs transitions their site and services into a new Cloud environment.
The NISC contract supports the FAA across the country and we are seeking a software engineer with strong software developer/systems administrator inclinations who has experience using the technologies listed below to run service oriented architectures. The candidate will be expected to champion design principles such as Infrastructure as Code, Dev Sec Ops, and rigorous automated testing, reporting and auditing. The ideal candidate will be one who is fastidious and thorough when adhering to our standards and requirements with a very strong inclination towards automation wherever possible.
The FAA Weather Camera Program is composed of hundreds of Linux based camera sites with thousands of cameras viewable from our cloud based web application, https://weathercams.faa.gov . We use Amazon Web Services (AWS) via Federal Cloud Services (FCS), Terraform, Kubernetes, Ansible, Linux and node.js. We use GitLab for version control and continuous integration. We also continue to use a legacy codebase which includes PHP, Perl, and Bash. We are a small high performance team where each of us wears many hats in order to carry out our mission.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain the existing configuration and integrity of the Linux devices and AWS systems to follow applicable policies and instructions.
Identify technologies, design patterns, and processes to help improve the effectiveness of our IT operation.
Identifying shortfalls in our existing architecture and applications when they fail to meet our own standards.
Modify infrastructure at the direction of the Government.
Perform system monitoring and operating system evaluations.
Utilize the Government tool suites (specifically FAA) and capabilities to service network devices and cloud environment.
Operate and maintain a service assurance capability for cybersecurity defense service tools.
Ensure Business Continuity Management (BCM) plans are in place and executable.
Provide design recommendations to the Government related to change requests for Linux and AWS environments.
Perform analysis on user and infrastructure related issues associated with cybersecurity defense infrastructure tools and provide recommendations to the Government.
Provide compliance data or feedback as needed to Government in response to orders and directives including Security reviews and updates.
Refactor existing applications to conform to our goals while improving stability, maintainability, and ease of operation.
Performing software and configuration inventory to respond to security inquiries.
Develop and present plans to shepherd our initiatives through regulatory approval to include writing system documentation.
Creating user accounts and maintaining associated documentation workflows.
Patching software and servers to avoid vulnerabilities and triage and restoration of services when problems occur.
Updating security certificates, rotating passwords, auditing user and service accounts.
Deploying software changes with Ansible to the camera network.
Please Note: This role is based in Anchorage, Alaska.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree with 4+ years of prior relevant experience OR a Masters with 2+ years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of relevant experience maybe considered/accepted in lieu of degree.
Experience in Cloud Technologies, primarily AWS and automation techniques.
Experience with the Linux operating system.
Understanding the principles of software development, including design, development, testing, troubleshooting, debugging.
Understanding of aspects of architect and design enterprise cloud solutions and AWS.
Ability to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance Suitability (To be eligible for Public Trust Security Clearance, one must be either a U.S. Citizen OR a U.S. Permanent Resident/Green Card holder who has resided in the U.S.A for the past 3 years of the past 5 years consecutively with no breaks).
