We are looking for a hands-on full stack engineer who can turn an early idea into a working product, learn from real users, and improve it quickly. You will work across the product stack, use AI-assisted development tools as part of your everyday workflow, and help embed practical AI capabilities into the products we create.
This role is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys small teams, incomplete information, fast feedback, and real ownership. You should be comfortable making reasonable decisions, testing assumptions, and changing direction when the evidence calls for it.
WHAT YOU'LL DO- Build full stack web applications from prototype through production.
- Use AI coding assistants and related tools to accelerate development while reviewing, testing, and taking responsibility for the resulting code.
- Design and implement AI-enabled product experiences, including workflows that use language models, retrieval, structured outputs, tool use, or agentic patterns when they are appropriate.
- Work closely with product and Ventures leaders to turn loosely defined opportunities into small, testable releases.
- Rapidly prototype, gather feedback, measure what is useful, and iterate without over-engineering the first version.
- Make pragmatic technical decisions that balance speed, product quality, maintainability, security, and cost.
- Produce clear, reliable code and use test-driven development where it adds confidence and speed.
- Debug across the stack, improve existing code, and contribute wherever the product needs help.
- Communicate tradeoffs, risks, and assumptions clearly to technical and non-technical teammates.
- Hands-on experience building and shipping full stack software products.
- Ability to work across front-end, back-end, APIs, integrations, and cloud deployment.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools in a professional coding workflow.
- Experience building or integrating AI-powered product capabilities, not just experimenting with prompts.
- Comfort with ambiguity, changing priorities, and making progress without a fully defined specification.
- A rapid-iteration mindset with a bias toward small releases, user feedback, and learning.
- Strong ownership, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a small team.
- Working knowledge of Git, RESTful web services, modern web development, cloud platforms, and container-based development.
- Attention to testing, observability, security, and responsible handling of customer and business data.
- JavaScript, Node.js, Python, or Go (Golang) experience.
- React or another modern front-end framework.
- Docker, and Amazon Web Services or another cloud platform.
- Experience using GitHub for source control and collaborative software development.
- Test-driven development.
- Experience taking a zero-to-one product from early concept to a production release.
- Experience evaluating AI models, prompts, retrieval approaches, and output quality in a real product.
- Experience in Property and Casualty insurance or insurance technology preferred.
- Approximately 3 or more years of full stack development experience. We value demonstrated ability and shipped work over a specific number of years.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
To support Exzeo's collaborative culture, remote employees are required to report to a central office location for one week each quarter for collaboration, team building, and educational activities.
Exzeo offers 100% employer-paid health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance for employees, a flexible paid time off plan, a 401(k) match, and bonus potential.
