Our goal in the App Deployment Team is to remove the barriers between data and action, and provide people with access to informative, predictive, relevant, and actionable data via the Splunk platform. This team focuses on applications management, which is integral in the adoption and successful use of Splunk’s platform.
Your impact
We are looking for an extraordinary Software Engineer to drive the technical direction and implementation of the Splunk Cloud application management experiences. This is a backend-focused role on a team that values engineers who are eager to contribute to front-end experiences as well. You will build reliable services primarily in Python and Go, with opportunities to make hands-on contributions to React-based interfaces and reusable UI components. The core of the role is backend engineering; front-end experience with React is a valuable complement, not a full-stack requirement. You thrive in a dynamic environment and have a proven record of software delivery. This role requires cross-team collaboration with our product management, user experience, and documentation teams, as well as technical leaders from other engineering teams.
What you'll do- Participate in the design, implementation and delivery of long-term-impact software in accordance with given requirements and existing system architecture.
- Maintain the existing technology stack and debug and fix issues.
- Work closely with product management, architects, user experience, and the team to build exciting features, reusable components, and products.
- Build, analyze, and optimize reliable backend services primarily in Python and Go, pursuing simplicity, efficiency, reliability, and performance.
- Contribute to React-based user interfaces and reusable front-end components when opportunities align with your interests and expertise.
- Use independent judgment to understand existing code and improve it as needed, while maintaining a high standard of quality.
- Understand the challenges and trade-offs involved in building and deploying new systems to production.
- Lead code reviews and use your understanding of customer experiences to prevent future problems.
- Follow the software development lifecycle in an Agile methodology and contribute to a strong engineering culture through testing, observability, and operational excellence.
- 2+ years of software engineering experience with a degree in Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent training or work experience.
- Solid knowledge of Python and/or Go, or another modern programming language, plus eagerness to work in Python and Go as needed. Most of our code base is written in Python.
- Hands-on experience with React or another modern front-end framework is beneficial. We value engineers who are eager to learn and contribute to front-end technology while working in a backend-heavy team.
- Experience with AWS and Azure.
- Experience working in Kubernetes systems, with familiarity with kubectl and Docker containers.
- Experience working with thoughtfully designed RESTful APIs and influencing API design choices.
- Mastery of test-driven development and developing different levels of automated tests, such as unit, functional, and integration tests.
- Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- A constant stream of new things for you to learn. We're always expanding into new areas, bringing in open source projects and contributing back, and exploring new technologies.
- A set of exceptionally talented and dedicated peers, from engineering and QA to product management and customer support.
- Growth and mentorship. We believe in growing engineers through ownership and leadership opportunities. We also believe mentors help both sides of the equation.
- A stable, collaborative, and supportive work environment.
- An opportunity to see the positive impact of your work on real customers.
