Software Engineer Intern

Homey is a London based PropTech company on a mission to make property transactions faster and less painful. Our platform powers conveyancing for everyone involved: buyers, sellers, estate agents, mortgage brokers and conveyancing solicitors, with real time updates, vetted professionals, and tools that replace the spreadsheets, emails and phone calls that slow the process down today. We are also building a free AI CRM for estate agents to manage their leads and clients without paying for clunky software. We are a small, ambitious team based at 5 Merchant Square, Paddington, fixing one of the most stressful experiences in people's lives.

The role

We're looking for a Software Engineer Intern to join the Execution Pods. You will sit alongside experienced engineers, learn how production grade software is designed and shipped, and own real, scoped pieces of development work from day one. This isn't a “watch and take notes” internship — you will write code, review pull requests, fix bugs, and ship features under the mentorship of senior engineers.

What you’ll do

• Build and ship features across our web platform, working on backend and/or frontend depending on your strengths and the team’s needs.
• Write clean, well tested code that meets acceptance criteria and is reviewed by your peers.
• Fix bugs, investigate production issues, and improve the reliability of existing modules.
• Participate in sprint planning, refinement, standups and retrospectives as a full member of the pod.
• Pair with QA engineers during development so testability is designed in early, not bolted on at the end.
• Contribute to code reviews — giving and receiving constructive, kind feedback.
• Help maintain documentation and keep the codebase clean and easy to navigate.

What we’re looking for

• A recent graduate or final year student in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field — or a self taught equivalent who can show their work.
• Comfortable writing code in at least one language (Ruby, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript preferred).
• A solid understanding of the web: HTTP, REST APIs, databases, and how a request travels from browser to server and back.
• Familiar with Git and the basics of branching and pull request workflows.
• Clear, kind written communication — you’ll be writing commit messages, PR descriptions and comments that other people read.
• Willingness to learn fast, ask questions early, and take ownership of your work.

Nice to have (not required)

• Experience with Ruby on Rails, Django, FastAPI, React or similar frameworks.
• Familiarity with SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL).
• Some understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or containerisation (Docker).
• Any practical project — university, hackathon or personal — where you built and shipped something end to end.
• Interest in UK property, PropTech, or operations heavy software.
