APIM Engineer - Hyderabad India

Role Overview
MetLife is seeking an experienced APIM Engineer who owns the design, operation, and stability of the Azure API Management platform, enabling secure and scalable API delivery across the enterprise. The role supports API onboarding, migrations, governance, and production operations, with a strong focus on platform resilience, security, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Review the documentation and make recommendation for change.
- Design and develop reverse proxy configuration for specific project requirements.
- Design, develop and implement custom solution in reverse proxy, single sign-on flows.
- Troubleshoot issues seen in Azure API Management policies, Performance improvement and Process improvements.
- Ensure that technical solutions meet requirements defined by planned designs, application designs and operational requirements.
- Design and build with standards for technical deliverables that ensure design, application and operational stakeholders have provided necessary input.
- Work with other team members to ensure the implementation is working.
- Investigate failures, perform root cause analysis, and utilize the internal defect tracking tool to create detailed, high quality defect reports.
- Document each solution in detail in addition to articulating how a given solution will meet functional and non-functional requirements.
- Understand architecture diagrams and operational documentation and deliver.
- Knowledge on OIDC, Azure Entra, Azure App Registration, Apache Reverse Proxy, Application flow would be added advantage.
Core Skills
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, HTTP methods, API versioning, and lifecycle management
- Experience creating and managing APIs, Products, Subscriptions, and Policies in APIM
- Solid knowledge of API security: OAuth2, JWT validation, certificates, role‑based access
- Experience with Azure AD, Service Principals, App Registrations, and API roles
- Ability to onboard API producers and consumers and support API migrations (APIC → APIM)
- Experience troubleshooting APIM runtime, routing, and policy issues
Platform & Cloud Knowledge
- Working knowledge of Azure services (App Services / AKS backends, Application Insights, Log Analytics)
- Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and performance analysis for APIs
- Understanding of non‑prod and prod environment promotion and release governance
DevOps & Operations (optional)
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines supporting APIM changes
- Experience supporting production incidents, root cause analysis, and stability improvements
- Understanding of platform resilience concepts (health checks, rollback, recovery)
Nice to Have
- Hands‑on experience with Azure API Management (APIM)
- Prior experience in financial services / enterprise integration platforms
- Knowledge of API governance standards and documentation practices
- Experience working with shared platform or infrastructure‑owned services
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in API, integration, or platform engineering
- Azure certification or APIM‑specific experience is a plus
- Language: Business proficiency in English;
