We are seeking a driven Software Engineer II for the System Integration & Reliability team with a background in Windows development to actively contribute towards the delivery of high quality, compelling Windows experiences on innovating silicon platforms. The candidate will play a key role across multiple phases of silicon development, platform validation, and product enablement. Responsibilities include prototyping and evaluating new hardware and software designs, bringing up new System on Chip (SoCs) and platforms, validating hardware and firmware features, debugging system-level issues, analyzing performance, and developing scalable automation frameworks and regression test suites.

Responsibilities

The candidate will contribute across multiple phases of silicon development, platform validation, and product enablement for Windows-based devices. This role involves bringing new silicon platforms to life, enabling hardware and software features, and delivering high-quality validation solutions that improve product readiness and engineering efficiency. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Design, develop, and validate software solutions that support silicon bring-up, platform enablement, and feature readiness across emerging hardware platforms. 
  • Prototype and evaluate new hardware and software capabilities, investigate system behaviors, and drive root-cause analysis for complex issues spanning hardware, firmware, drivers, and operating system components. 
  • Develop and maintain automated validation frameworks, regression test suites, and supporting infrastructure to improve test coverage, scalability, and execution efficiency. 
  • Analyze performance, reliability, and compatibility issues across the platform stack and partner with engineering teams to drive resolution. 
  • Debug and enhance device drivers, platform software, and supporting system components to ensure robust functionality and product quality. 
  • Collaborate with architects, hardware engineers, firmware developers, operating system teams, and external silicon partners to define requirements, refine solutions, and deliver capabilities across multiple product generations. 
  • Contribute to the design of maintainable, modular, and reusable software components with an emphasis on quality, diagnosability, and long-term supportability. 
  • Participate in technical design reviews, code reviews, and validation reviews to improve engineering excellence and product outcomes. 
  • Work effectively in an Agile development environment, contributing to planning, implementation, testing, and continuous improvement activities. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, or Python.
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in software and/or product development. 
  • Proven C/C++ design, coding, debugging and testing skills. 
  • Solid communication skills required, including the ability to clearly express technical concepts in verbal and written forms. 
  • SoC bring-up, bootloaders, platform initialization, and hardware enablement. 
  • Platform technologies and peripherals including PCIe, NVMe, USB, I2C, SPI, UART, and related interfaces. 
  • Device driver development and debugging. 
  • Windows Plug and Play architecture and device management. 
  • Operating system fundamentals including memory management, scheduling, interrupts, synchronization, and multithreaded programming. 
  • Kernel debugging, crash dump analysis, hardware debugging, and JTAG-based bring-up. 
  • Performance analysis and system-level troubleshooting. 
  • Building scalable automation frameworks and automated test infrastructure.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
