The Data Experience Team owns and operates systems that are used across Akamai for log delivery, analytics, reporting and alerting. These systems currently receive over 7PB/day of data and process over 5 trillion records per day. Our code helps to run one of the largest distributed systems in the world. You will work at the heart of the Internet.

You will build and extend services processing large volumes of data and managing its storage and retrieval. You will join a cross-functional scrum team that owns services and products’ design, development and deployment and maintenance. Thousands of internal and external Akamai customers use these.

As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Participating in the design, development, improvement, operation, and automation of observability solutions for scalable and resilient services that leverage both Open Source solutions like Kubernetes and Kafka as well as internal tools
  • Following modern DevOps practices, building new services, or enhancing the existing ones
  • Testing, profiling, and monitoring code performance
  • Diagnosing system performance and reliability together with the team of Site Reliability Engineers
  • Contributing to internal research processes, methodologies, and approaches to create and share best practices
  • Partnering with product owners, development, and test groups to create rapid cycles of feedback and improvement

  • Have experience in programming and automating processes using Java and other programming languages
  • Know Web technologies and frameworks like Spring
  • Have experience working with databases and SQL queries syntax
  • Have an understanding of the development, management, and deployment of highly scalable applications, distributed systems, and modern observability
  • Have experience with developing software in GNU/Linux or Unix environment
  • Collaborate and effectively communicate with multidisciplinary teams to solve technical and business challenges
  • Have interest in or experience of cloud deployment with Kubernetes, eg. AWS or Linode
  • Have interest in or experience with Kafka
