Captivation Software is looking for a mid level software engineer who will enhance a Spring Boot application that processes large volumes of operational data while evolving the platform through containerization, Kubernetes deployment, and modern software engineering practices. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative team responsible for developing and maintaining a Spring Boot application with a MariaDB backend that processes terabytes of enterprise data each week. The team delivers software while preparing the application for containerized deployment on Kubernetes. The ideal candidate is passionate about modern software engineering and enjoys building scalable Java applications that process large volumes of data while leveraging Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, relational databases, and container technologies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence technical design decisions and contribute to the continued modernization of a mission-critical system.
Responsibilities
- Analyze user and system requirements and help drive the technical design, implementation, and modernization of software solutions.
- Develop, test, debug, and maintain Java and Angular applications using modern software engineering practices.
- Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and service integrations.
- Develop and optimize MariaDB and other relational database interactions, queries, and data access components.
- Develop software that efficiently processes and manages large volumes of enterprise data.
- Support modernization initiatives including application containerization, Kubernetes deployment, and continued evolution of the application's architecture.
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, troubleshooting, technical design, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain unit, integration, and automated tests while supporting CI/CD processes.
- Utilize GitLab CI/CD pipelines to support automated build, test, and deployment activities.
- Create and maintain technical documentation using Confluence and participate in planning and work tracking using Jira.
- Provide backup support for Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB database administration, including routine maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, backup and recovery, and operational support during DBA absences.
- Cross-train across application, database, and deployment technologies to ensure continuity of operations and resilient team support.
RequirementsSecurity Clearance:
- Must currently hold a Top Secret/SCI U.S. Government security clearance with a favorable Polygraph, therefore all candidates must be a U.S. citizen
- A minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a SWE is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university is required
- Experience developing Java enterprise applications using Spring Boot or similar modern frameworks.
- Experience developing web applications using Angular or similar modern front-end frameworks.
- Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
- Experience developing applications using Oracle, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, or similar relational database technologies.
- Experience working with container technologies such as Docker or Podman.
- Experience deploying and supporting containerized applications in Kubernetes environments.
- Experience with application modernization and software architecture evolution.
- Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation.
- Experience designing and implementing microservices architectures.
- Experience deploying applications to Kubernetes platforms such as Rancher, Amazon EKS, OpenShift, or other CNCF-compliant Kubernetes distributions.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes concepts including Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps, Secrets, Ingress, Persistent Volumes, and Helm charts.
- Experience designing or supporting applications that process large volumes of enterprise data.
- Experience implementing and maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience utilizing Jira and Confluence in a software development environment.
- Experience providing operational support for Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MariaDB databases.
- Experience with automated testing, DevSecOps practices, and modern software delivery pipelines.

- Annual Salary: $130,000 - $270,000 (Depends on the Years of Experience)
- Up to 20% 401k contribution (No Matching Required and Vested from Day 1)
