This role is a hybrid position
This position is considered hybrid, allowing for a combination of remote work and in-office collaboration. Qualified applicants must live within commuting distance of our Boston office location and should expect to be in office approximately three days per week.
As a Software Development Engineer, you will represent the Software Engineering discipline in the Product Engineering group. You will have a direct impact on the business, advancing our developer platform for both internal and external customers. You’ll be exposed to a large variety of the foundational pieces of the Sonos system - music playback, device-to-device interaction, partner services, and much more. In addition, you’ll be tasked with creating a development pipeline with quality at its core. You will be expected to understand the features being built and automate testing of those features. In addition, you will work with a team of industry-leading innovators across many different disciplines such as hardware, product management and user experience. What You’ll Do
As a Software Development Engineer, you’ll work on a cross-functional team to design and build product features and capabilities. Examples include:

Building world class speaker products and solving challenges in areas involving embedded software development for multi-room audio processing, networking, security and user experience.

Working on the next generation of services and APIs for controlling the Sonos system as part of a smart, internet-connected home.

Empowering our users to listen better by making it easy to access new, relevant content.

Adding new features to the mobile applications that let our users control and listen to their audio content on their system.
You’ll also use and gain experience in the following:

Using Scrum principles by participating in daily standup meetings, weekly grooming sessions, and other meetings.

Working alongside a mentor, manager, and other teammates who can provide expectations and support, as well as testers, product managers and user experience designers.

Having excellent written and verbal communication skills

Being willing to challenge yourself, ask questions, and learn from setbacks

Working in a distributed environment with remote and in person collaboration
What You'll Need
Basic Qualifications
-
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience
-
0-2 years of experience in working in embedded, cloud, or app software development
-
Demonstrated proficiency writing code with one or more of the following:
-
Python, Javascript, Java, Swift/Kotlin, C/C++
-

Familiarity with version control such as Git, Perforce, etc
-
Understanding of the software development lifecycle and continuous integration and deployment techniques
-
Implementing automated and self service software engineering processes
-
This role requires commuting distance to our engineering office in Boston. Qualified candidates are expected to be in our office at least three days a week
Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with one or more of the following technologies:

Embedded Software: C/C++, Audio Processing, Networking, Security, AOSP

Cloud Platform: Java, NodeJS, AWS, IoT, Kubernetes, Docker, Machine Learning and NLP

App Development: Kotlin, Swift, Java, Objective-C, C++

Data: Tableau, Kibana, DataDog and other system reliability and quality tracking tools

Experience with CI/CD build and release pipelines: Github Actions, Jenkins, Azure Pipelines, etc

At Sonos we consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may lead individual compensation to vary depending on job related qualifications, skills, and experience. All full time employees are eligible for merit increases, discretionary bonuses, and equity. Our job postings may span more than one career level and the base pay range may be modified in the future based on changing market conditions. The starting base pay for this role for all US candidates is between:
$95,000 and $105,000
