Our Technology Team partners with teams across Expedia Group to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. This Software development engineer III role is part of the Intelligent Applications team which sits within our Technology division. The Intelligent Applications team builds and scales AI-powered traveler and agent experiences, including virtual assistants and trip-planning capabilities, that make it easier for customers and service teams to find answers, resolve issues, and complete travel tasks more efficiently. You will design, build, and optimize production-grade software solutions that power these intelligent experiences, directly improving how travelers and agents get timely, accurate, and personalized support at scale.
In this role, you will:
• Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reliable, and high‑quality software services and applications, including clear low‑level designs, well‑structured APIs, and robust data models aligned to business and technical requirements..
• Take ownership of end‑to‑end service delivery for your components, including coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational support in production environments..
• Collaborate with product, architecture, and cross‑functional engineering teams to translate complex functional and non‑functional requirements into technical solutions that can be reused across multiple product domains..
• Improve system performance, availability, and security by identifying bottlenecks, troubleshooting complex issues, and driving technical improvements through data‑driven analysis and experimentation..
• Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI‑driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products where appropriate..
• Contribute to engineering best practices by advocating for high code quality, effective test strategies, strong documentation, and continuous improvement of development and operational processes..
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience..
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience..
• Experience in professional software development, including service ownership for at least one significant service or application in production..
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language and core computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, object‑oriented design, and debugging..
• Hands‑on experience with system design at the component or service level, including low‑level design, API design, and data modeling for backend or full‑stack systems..
• Familiarity with AI‑driven systems, tools, or workflows and the ability to collaborate with teams building or integrating AI/ML‑enabled features.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience designing and evolving multi‑service or domain‑level architectures, including clear contracts between services, resilient APIs, and scalable data models..
• Demonstrated track record of improving operational excellence for owned services, including reliability, observability, incident response, and performance tuning at scale..
• Proven ability to use data‑driven approaches (metrics, logging, experimentation) to guide technical decisions, optimize features, and validate system behavior in production..
• Safely integrates and operates AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including experience collaborating with data science or ML teams to productionize models, optimize inference performance, or manage AI‑powered features..
• Experience applying AI‑assisted development or testing tools to increase engineering productivity, code quality, or maintainability while upholding security and compliance standards..
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
