As a Software Architect within PNC's C&IB Application Architecture organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA or Dallas, TX.
Solution/Software Architect
Responsible for partnering with business, product, and technology teams to design scalable, secure, and maintainable technology solutions that align with strategic business objectives. The role leads the analysis of Functional Requirements (FRs) and Architecture Quality Attributes (AQAs), translating business needs into solution designs, architectural decisions, and implementation roadmaps. The Solution Architect produces and maintains architecture documentation, diagrams, design reviews, and governance artifacts while ensuring solutions adhere to enterprise standards, risk, security, resilience, and operational requirements. The role collaborates across delivery teams to evaluate technology options, identify dependencies and impacts, facilitate stakeholder alignment, and provide architectural guidance throughout the solution lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
• Analyze and document business, functional, and non-functional requirements (AQAs).
• Create and maintain solution architecture artifacts, design documentation, and decision records.
• Evaluate solution alternatives, trade-offs, risks, and dependencies.
• Ensure designs meet enterprise architecture, security, compliance, and operational standards.
• Support governance, design reviews, and architecture approval processes.
• Collaborate with business, product, engineering, infrastructure, and platform teams to guide solution delivery.
• Provide technical leadership and architectural oversight from concept through implementation and production support,
Key Skills & Knowledge
• Strong understanding of application architecture patterns, including layered, event-driven, API-first, microservices, and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience with the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Agile delivery methodologies, DevSecOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to analyze and document Functional Requirements (FRs) and Architecture Quality Attributes (AQAs), translating business needs into scalable solution designs.
• Proficiency in application integration patterns, APIs, messaging, service orchestration, and enterprise application interoperability.
• Experience creating architecture artifacts, including solution designs, sequence diagrams, component diagrams, deployment diagrams, and tech specifications
• Knowledge of cloud platforms and modern application technologies, including containerization, orchestration, serverless, and platform services.
• Understanding of security architecture principles, including authentication, authorization, encryption, secrets management, and secure application design.
• Knowledge of resiliency, availability, scalability, performance, maintainability, observability, and operational support considerations as part of solution design and AQAs.
• Ability to evaluate technology options, conduct impact and dependency analysis, identify risks and trade-offs, and recommend architecture decisions.
• Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across business, product, engineering, infrastructure, security, and operations teams.
• Experience supporting architecture governance, design reviews, and adherence to enterprise standards and best practices.

- Designs an application's technical infrastructure, such as specific databases, programming languages, utilities, and testing approaches.
- Participates in the assessment of software defects discovered during the quality assurance process.
