About the Team

In practice, that means sharing ownership, solving complex problems together and staying connected to the customer context, the purpose behind the work and how each role contributes to meaningful outcomes.

The Opportunity

This role has been created to support a Sydney-based Defence customer, delivering a modern and secure desktop experience across a complex ICT environment. As an SOE Engineer, you will play a key role in the organisation's Windows 10 to Windows 11 transition, helping to design, build, test and deploy a scalable Standard Operating Environment that supports operational readiness, security compliance, and end-user productivity.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the development, maintenance, and optimisation of the Windows 11 Standard Operating Environment (SOE) using technologies such as MECM/SCCM, Microsoft Intune, and MDT.
  • Package, test, and validate applications for compatibility, ensuring a seamless transition to Windows 11 across enterprise devices and virtualised environments.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and operational teams to implement SOE standards that align with organisational security, compliance, and performance requirements.
  • Contribute to pilot deployments, troubleshooting activities, documentation, and knowledge transfer, providing technical guidance to support teams throughout the rollout lifecycle.

About You

You are an experienced SOE Engineer who enjoys working in structured enterprise environments and delivering reliable end-user computing solutions. You bring a practical approach to desktop deployment, a focus on continuous improvement, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and operational stakeholders.

Essential for this role:

  • Demonstrated experience in SOE engineering, desktop deployment, and operating system lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of Windows 10 and Windows 11 architecture, deployment methodologies, and enterprise endpoint management practices.
  • Experience using MECM/SCCM, Microsoft Intune, PowerShell scripting, and Group Policy to manage and deploy desktop environments.
  • Capability in application packaging and compatibility testing utilising technologies such as MSI, App-V, or MSIX.
  • Experience working with Active Directory and implementing enterprise security and compliance standards.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex desktop and deployment issues and deliver practical, customer-focused solutions.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to create technical documentation and support knowledge transfer activities.

Advantageous, but not essential:

  • Experience supporting large-scale Windows 11 migration or desktop modernisation programs.
  • Exposure to client virtualisation technologies and modern endpoint management practices.
  • Knowledge of change management, risk assessment, and deployment governance processes within Defence or other highly regulated environments.
  • This role requires the successful applicant to be an Australian citizen hold a NV-2 security clearance.
  • If this role interests you, we encourage you to apply. We value different experiences and are interested in the capability and potential you could bring.
