Mama Money is a growth stage fintech startup working to help migrant workers in South Africa send money home. Since 2015 we have been providing reliable remittances, at a socially fair price, to those that need it most.
Mama HQ is in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. We are 131 people strong (and counting) from 19 countries across Africa, Asia, the UK, and Europe. As our Social media co-ordinator, you will support the day-to-day management of our social media channels. As part of a mission-driven company in the remittance space, you’ll help us engage with local and global communities, build trust, and educate users about how to send money safely and efficiently across borders. This role is ideal for someone with strong communication skills, a passion for social content, and an understanding of diverse international audiences.
As our Social Media Co-ordinator, you will:
- Assist in scheduling and publishing content across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, TikTok, WhatsApp).
- Work closely with our Agent network to provide them content that can assist them to promote Mama Money and bring them customers.
- Generate ideas and promotions to drive our customers to post about us. Handle all the administration for delivering these prizes.
- Help create and localize culturally relevant, compliant content (text, image, video) for diaspora communities in local languages where necessary.
- Build a influencer network within South Africa and in our diaspora countries to create content who will reach our customers.
- Advise on how we can scale this influencer network using applications/websites to manage this.
- Track and report on social media metrics weekly (engagement, growth, reach) as well as the impact on installs and sales.
- Coordinate with design, customer support, and compliance teams to ensure messaging is accurate and consistent.
- Research trends, hashtags, influencers, and competitors in key remittance markets.
- Support social media campaigns and promotions tied to product launches or community events.
- Maintain the social content calendar and ensure timely posting.
Experience & qualifications:
- 2 to 3 years of experience managing or assisting with social media accounts, ideally in fintech, financial services, or remittances.
- Familiarity with platforms like Meta Business Suite, TikTok and ChatGPT, influencer platforms.
- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to tone and cultural nuance.
- Interest in cross-border communities, international money transfer, or global financial inclusion.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and respond quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic understanding of analytics tools (native platform insights, Google Analytics a plus).
- A willingness to try new things and an entrepreneurial mindset that takes ownership and generates ideas.
