Helaina is a cutting-edge nutrition biotech company creating nutrients of the future. We leverage a world-class team in food science, nutrition, and engineering to develop breakthrough food ingredients designed to improve health for everyone.
Our vision is to build a nutrient platform that powers the future of consumer health by introducing bioactive proteins to the market for the very first time. Our journey was inspired by breast milk—a unique substance that is both food and medicine. Helaina’s Founder, Laura Katz, saw parents, cancer patients, and athletes seeking out these proteins for their proven ability to boost immunity, gut health, and brain development.
Helaina's first product is effera®, an identical replica of human lactoferrin, one of breast milk's most powerful proteins. effera® supports iron absorption, women's health, and immune function, crosses the blood-brain barrier for cognitive support, and aids in recovery and healthy aging.
About the TeamMarketing at Helaina is a team of one, supported by a small group of specialist contractors. That means real ownership from day one and no layers between you and the work. Our audience ranges from the brands that formulate with us to the people who follow the company itself, and our content must be credible first and engaging second.
We’re looking for someone to be our eyes and camera in our New York office. Helaina’s most valuable content happens live: our founder explaining the science, the team in the lab, a customer visit, or a milestone hit on a Monday morning. Right now, most of it goes uncaptured.
Three things sit inside this role, and they matter equally:
Helaina (the company): Our Instagram is about Helaina, not just the product—focusing on culture, people, science, milestones, and the founder’s story.
Laura’s channels: Supporting our CEO’s content so her voice shows up consistently.
effera®: Our lead ingredient and primary focus of explanation—though not the whole story.
You will shoot on-site, edit, and deliver an agreed-upon set of finished assets each month.
Shoot short-form video in the NYC office against a monthly content plan agreed upon with your manager.
Act as the primary point person for founder content. When Laura is writing, presenting, hosting, or explaining something, you capture it.
Direct simple on-camera setups, including talking-head pieces with the CEO and members of the science and commercial teams.
Edit footage into finished, caption-ready assets sized correctly for Instagram and LinkedIn.
Cover company culture, team moments, lab/production environments, and lighter formats that suit the brand.
Maintain a clear shot log and organized asset library in Google Drive so footage is reusable.
Propose two or three content ideas of your own while taking overall direction from the marketing manager.
Flag anything touching product claims or study data to your manager before scheduling. Everything published about effera® undergoes a review step.
You shoot on a phone and make it look intentional, not accidental. (You have a reel we can watch.)
You edit competently in CapCut, Premiere, Final Cut, or Canva.
You work independently. While an external designer can help occasionally, you can take an idea from concept to finished asset on your own.
You’re flexible with scheduling. Office time moves around the CEO’s calendar, so you can adapt to shifting dates.
You understand how Instagram and LinkedIn actually function, not just how they look, and can explain why a post worked.
You’re comfortable directing a CEO—asking for another take, moving someone into better light, and holding your ground on the shot.
Bonus: An interest in science, nutrition, biotech, or health, or experience making technical subject matter feel human.
Bonus: Basic graphic or motion work skills in Canva or After Effects.
Hours: 16 to 20 hours a month to start (covering both shooting and editing), with room to grow if the work is strong.
Schedule: In-office time is scheduled around the CEO’s availability rather than a fixed day. Flexibility is required, and we will work with you to optimize in-office time.
Duration: Initial 6-month commitment, with the option to continue based on mutual fit.
Equipment: Phone/camera and editing software are not provided (BYO equipment).
Eligibility: Open to current students, recent graduates, and anyone building a portfolio in content production.
Compensation: Paid, part-time, hourly role ranging from $20–$28 per hour, commensurate with experience and portfolio strength.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies show that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every qualification. At Helaina, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every item listed, we encourage you to apply anyway! You may be the right candidate for this or other roles.
