The Network Engineering and Operations (NEO) team is a core part of Cisco, delivering development and infrastructure support for a wide range of critical applications. This includes Cisco's internal Platform Engineering, Observability, and Automation services. We are "Customer Zero," running Cisco networking applications and gear in our own environment.

Your Impact 
 

As an SRE on our team, you will bring DevOps technology, SRE practices, and Network automation to the deployment, management, and continuous improvement of our Network Services systems. You will play a key role in developing and maintaining internally developed applications that provide critical services for Cisco’s internal network, ensuring our platforms are reliable, available, scalable, and high-performing.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, maintain, and improve automation solutions using Python and/or Shell in Linux environments.
  • Support and enhance production platform services with a focus on reliability, availability, and performance.
  • Develop and maintain runbooks, operational documentation, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Work with containers and orchestration platforms like Podman, and Kubernetes in Linux-based environments.
  • Contribute to CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and infrastructure-as-code using Git and Jenkins.
  • Build and support API-based integrations across internal tools and services.
  • Partner with platform, software, network, and operations teams to identify failure points and drive improvements.
  • Use modern engineering productivity tools, such as GitHub Copilot, to boost efficiency.
  • Improve observability through monitoring, logging, alerting, dashboards, and actionable operational insights.
  • Help define and improve SLIs, SLOs, and operational metrics.
  • Lead incident response, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, postmortems, and service restoration.
  • Participate in on-call support for critical services and contribute to operational readiness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in either of the following areas Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or Operations.
  • Hands-on experience developing, maintaining, and supporting automation solutions using Python and/or Shell scripting.
  • Strong experience with Linux administration, preferably in RHEL environments.
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure fundamentals (compute, storage, networking, DNS, load balancing, security).
  • Experience supporting containerized and/or orchestrated environments ( Docker / Podman, Kubernetes).
  • Understanding of modern software delivery (CI/CD, Git, Jenkins, and microservices).
  • Experience creating and consuming API-based services.
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability practices.
  • Familiarity with incident response, root cause analysis, and production support.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery processes.
  • Willingness to provide on-call support.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a STEM-related field.
  • Experience in large enterprise or mission-critical production environments.
  • Exposure to public cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with Cisco platforms (Catalyst Center, Spaces, EPNM, NSO, or Infoblox).
  • Experience with disaster recovery, operational readiness, and incident simulations.
  • Foundational knowledge of enterprise networking (TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, load balancing).
  • Exposure to ServiceNow (CMDB, Incident, Request, and Change Management) and Jira.
  • Awareness of OpenTelemetry, AIOps, or data-driven operations.
  • Experience with AI-assisted coding tools like GitHub Copilot.
  • CCNA, Kubernetes (Administrator/Developer), or RHEL Administrator certifications.
