Role Summary:
Designs programs to eliminate and prevent disease, injury or environmental issues within the framework of the global HSE standards and ensures their effective implementation for the North-West African HSE team.

Our Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Department supports safe, compliant, and sustainable operations across all FLS Africa regional sites. The team drives regulatory compliance, risk management, environmental stewardship, and a strong safety culture through proactive engagement, system excellence, and continuous improvement.
Your responsibilities
Ensure compliance with North‑West African HSE laws, mining regulations, and environmental requirements.
Advise management on regulatory obligations, changes, and impacts on operations.
Serve as the primary liaison with government authorities, emergency services, and external HSE consultants.
Maintain and improve the Integrated Management System to retain ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certification.
Lead internal audits, coordinate external audits, and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
Maintain up‑to‑date HSE policies, procedures, and documentation aligned with legal and corporate standards.
Develop and track HSE objectives aligned with corporate KPIs.
Prepare monthly HSE performance reports and support regional HSE reviews.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, permits, and audit findings.
Conduct regular inspections across mining sites, workshops, and facilities.
Prepare and maintain client‑compliant Safety Files.
Perform risk assessments and support Management of Change processes.
Monitor compliance with critical safety controls (PPE, LOTO, working at heights, confined spaces, equipment safety).
Lead incident investigations using recognized methodologies and corporate standards.
Ensure accurate reporting, root‑cause analysis, and follow‑up on corrective actions.
Manage work‑related injury reporting and compensation processes.
Evaluate contractor HSE performance and ensure alignment with client and corporate requirements.
Promote proactive contractor engagement and control of high‑risk activities.
Deliver HSE inductions for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Facilitate safety training on hazards, risk assessment, emergency response, first aid, and equipment safety.
Maintain competency matrices and training records.
Support waste management, pollution prevention, spill response, and environmental monitoring programs.
Ensure adherence to environmental legislation and corporate environmental standards.
Implement and maintain crisis management and emergency response plans.
Lead emergency drills and act as the designated emergency officer during crisis scenarios.
Bachelor's degree in safety management/environmental health & science, and NEBOSH general cert.
Internal/Lead auditor ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
Minimum of 8 years SHE related experience in a manufacturing/ mining environment.
Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Must be willing and able to travel to Northern Africa site and work a flexible schedule.
Valid driver’s license.
Strong experience in HSE management within mining, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
Solid knowledge of regional HSE legislation and mining regulations.
Hands-on experience with ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 systems.
Proven ability to influence safety culture and drive continuous improvement.
