Job Summary
The Xfinity WiFi team is seeking a Senior Engineer (Engineer 4) to support the design, development, and operation of Comcast's large scale WiFi platforms, including a nationwide hotspot network serving millions of sessions across ~23M access points for Xfinity Mobile customers. This role focuses on hands on engineering, platform reliability, and feature delivery within established architectural frameworks. The Senior Engineer will contribute to network and WiFi design, platform security, and operational excellence while collaborating closely with peer engineers, product partners, and operations teams to deliver secure, high performance customer experiences at scale.
Job Description
This role is based in our downtown Philadelphia Comcast Technology Center.
In this role, you will contribute to platform architecture and product development for Xfinity WiFi and adjacent connectivity services. Responsibilities include designing and operating highly available services, supporting complex L2/L3 networking and WiFi architectures, contributing to F5 BIG-IP engineering initiatives, and ensuring secure, reliable platform operation.
You will work within established technical strategies, contribute to system design and implementation, participate in testing and certification efforts, and support continuous improvement of network performance and reliability. As a senior individual contributor, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners and provide guidance to junior engineers through knowledge sharing and mentorship.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and operation of high availability and geo redundant WiFi platforms and services
- Design, deploy, and maintain complex L2/L3 networking and WiFi architectures in large scale environments
- Engineer and support F5 BIG IP technologies (LTM, DNS/GTM, WAF) to enable reliable traffic management and security
- Support the engineering and operations of a nationwide hotspot network serving millions of customer sessions
- Implement platform security best practices, including service hardening, mTLS/PKI usage, and secure API integrations
- Participate in observability efforts across systems, including metrics, logging, alerting, and troubleshooting
- Perform performance analysis, capacity planning, and failure testing in partnership with operations teams
- Participate in system and architecture reviews, providing practical, implementation focused feedback
- Collaborate with product, platform, and partner engineering teams (e.g., RDK, Connected Living) to deliver new capabilities
- Contribute to testing, validation, and certification activities as required
- Mentor junior engineers and support the development of team technical skills and best practices
- Demonstrate operational rigor, clear communication, and a strong sense of ownership for delivered solutions
Qualifications:
- 7-10 years of experience in IP networking, WiFi, or distributed systems engineering
- Strong working knowledge of IP networking technologies (IPv4/IPv6, BGP, OSPF, DNS, DHCP, NAT)
- Hands on experience supporting F5 BIG IP solutions (LTM, DNS/GTM, WAF) in production environments
- Solid understanding of WiFi technologies including 802.11 standards, WPA2/WPA3, Passpoint/Hotspot 2.0, roaming, RADIUS, and EAP
- Experience designing, deploying, or operating highly available and secure networked systems
- Practical experience applying security best practices across network and platform layers
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in containerized or cloud native environments (Kubernetes, service mesh, etc.)
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code and automation tools (Terraform, CI/CD pipelines)
- Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry
- Exposure to performance engineering concepts such as load testing and capacity planning
- Strong collaboration skills and experience working with cross functional engineering and product teams
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for technical audiences
