Your role & work environment

Based in Luxembourg City, you will join a specialized Transaction Approval & Portfolio Management team covering Wholesale Banking, fund finance and Private Banking lending portfolios. The role combines senior credit decisioning, fund finance expertise and portfolio oversight for material client exposures, with a strong focus on disciplined risk selection, transaction structuring and ING’s global risk appetite.

You will act as a local credit approval authority and trusted risk partner for complex transactions, working with front-office teams, global Transaction Approval Mandates, industry specialists and Credit Risk Management experts. You will review origination requests, credit reviews, ratings, classifications, covenant developments, portfolio trends and limit utilization, forming clear independent credit views supported by robust analysis, sound judgement and high-quality documentation.

The position offers exposure to strategic growth areas such as fund finance, subscription-line and asset-backed lending, defense-related corporate financing and Lombard lending. It also provides an opportunity to shape the future Transaction Approval model in Luxembourg through stronger portfolio ownership, data-driven insights and responsible use of AI-enabled tools.

Your key responsibilities

  • Analyze, recommend, vote on and decide material credit exposures for Wholesale Banking clients, with a focus on fund finance, structured lending, defense-related corporates and complex Luxembourg-based opportunities.
  • Assess transaction structures, obligor quality, collateral packages, fund characteristics, investor base, covenants, legal documentation and exit or refinancing risks.
  • Produce and challenge concise credit opinions, clearly articulating key risks, mitigants, ratings, limits, tenor, covenants and risk-return considerations.
  • Own portfolio monitoring for assigned Wholesale Banking exposures, including reviews, covenant compliance, concentration risks, early-warning indicators and watchlist processes.
  • Work with relationship managers, product specialists, legal teams, global Transaction Approval colleagues and portfolio analytics teams to ensure consistent, high-quality credit decisions.
  • Contribute to sector, product and portfolio reviews by identifying emerging risks, concentrations, market developments and opportunities to strengthen credit standards.
  • Act as a senior knowledge partner by sharing fund finance, structured lending and credit risk insights while promoting strong risk culture and disciplined execution.

We look for

We are looking for an experienced credit risk professional with deep expertise in fund finance, structured lending or institutional credit, and the ability to combine commercial judgement with independent risk discipline. You bring the confidence to make and defend credit decisions and to engage credibly with senior stakeholders across business, risk, legal and governance functions.

As a Senior Transaction Approval & Portfolio Management Expert, you will ideally bring:

  • Master’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, accounting, law or a related quantitative discipline.
  • At least 10 years of experience in credit risk management, transaction approval, fund finance, structured lending, investment banking, institutional client coverage or portfolio management.
  • Strong understanding of fund finance structures, including subscription-line facilities, NAV or asset-backed lending concepts, investor and collateral analysis, borrowing base mechanics, covenants and documentation principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform credit analysis, assess repayment capacity, challenge assumptions and identify transaction-specific risk drivers.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing or approving credit memoranda, including ratings, limits, tenor, collateral, covenants, conditions precedent and monitoring requirements.
  • Credibility to engage senior stakeholders, challenge front-office proposals constructively and explain complex credit views clearly and decisively.
  • Excellent analytical, modelling, writing and presentation skills, including the ability to translate complex credit, legal and portfolio information into senior-management messages.
  • Strong ownership mindset, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities independently in a fast-moving, transaction-driven environment.
  • Experience using portfolio data, exposure reports and risk analytics to identify trends, early-warning signals and portfolio-level decision needs.
  • Resilience, integrity, confidentiality and high professional standards in complex and time-sensitive approval processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; French or another European language is an advantage.

We offer you

  • A senior, high-impact credit risk role in a strategic growth area, with exposure to fund finance, institutional clients, specialized lending, defense-related corporates, family offices and Lombard lending.
  • Meaningful ownership, delegated decision capacity and direct interaction with senior local and global stakeholders across Risk, Wholesale Banking and specialist product areas.
  • The opportunity to build a best-in-class transaction approval and portfolio management setup in Luxembourg, combining global standards, local expertise, data-driven insights and strong risk culture.
