ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Systems Administrator with a strong background in AWS cloud infrastructure, VMware virtualization, Okta identity management, and security solutions like Zscaler. The ideal candidate will also have experience with Linux administration. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our cloud-based and on-premises systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system reliability, scalability, and security, supporting business growth and operational efficiency.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

AWS Infrastructure Management:

  • Administer and manage AWS environments, including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems on AWS.
  • Implement and manage automated cloud deployments, monitoring, and alerting systems.
  • Optimize AWS resources for cost, performance, and scalability.

VMware Virtualization:

  • Manage and maintain VMware ESXi hosts, vCenter, and virtualized environments.
  • Design, implement, and maintain VMware clusters, storage, and networking.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues within the VMware infrastructure.
  • Perform backup and recovery tasks, ensuring minimal downtime and data protection.

System Administration:

  • Perform system and server administration for both cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and software for Windows and Linux-based systems.
  • Ensure systems' security through patch management, system updates, and vulnerability assessments.
  • Manage user permissions, authentication, and directory services (Active Directory, LDAP, Okta).
  • Provide expert-level support for incidents, problems, and change management processes.

Security and Network Management:

  • Implement and manage security protocols and tools (e.g., Zscaler, firewalls, VPNs, IAM) to ensure secure communication across systems.
  • Maintain network configurations and troubleshoot network-related issues in AWS, VMware, and hybrid environments.
  • Work with security teams to perform risk assessments and address vulnerabilities in the infrastructure.

Identity and Access Management (IAM):

  • Configure and manage Okta for single sign-on (SSO) and multi-factor authentication (MFA) across systems.
  • Administer Okta integrations with AWS and other enterprise systems.

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Work closely with other IT teams to align on infrastructure, application, and security needs.
  • Mentor junior system administrators and provide technical leadership to the team.
  • Participate in capacity planning and disaster recovery exercises.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation for systems architecture, configurations, and best practices.
  • Generate reports on system health, security status, and optimization efforts.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years’ experience in systems administration
  • Proven experience as a Systems Administrator, with a strong focus on AWS, VMware, and enterprise server management.
  • Advanced expertise in AWS services, including EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudFormation, and VPC.
  • Strong understanding of VMware ESXi, vCenter, virtual networking, and storage management.
  • Experience in implementing and managing security tools like Zscaler and VPN solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Okta, including identity management, SSO, and MFA.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux and Windows server administration.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Proficient in scripting and automation using languages like Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar.
  • Solid understanding of networking protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, etc.).
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide timely solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
