Job Details:
This position is responsible for executing various day-to-day tasks in the laboratory, including the processing of avian (poultry) blood or other tissues, poultry house and hatchery environmental samples; preparation of media and solutions according to written instructions; specimen preparation, log-in, and documentation of test results; equipment maintenance, calibration, and minor adjustments or repairs; maintenance of accurate supply inventories.
Organizational and neat work skills, the ability to work independently or in a team, and effective communication with peers, supervisors, and customers are essential to this position.
Critical skills also include the knowledge of and the ability to execute aseptic and sterilization techniques to keep materials, equipment, reagents, and facilities free from contamination with microscopic organisms.
Testing procedures used in the Cobb-Vantress laboratory include serological assays (blood testing), microbiological tests (bacteria and virus work), and molecular-level (DNA and RNA) assays.
Requirements
Education
Experienced position requiring advanced knowledge. Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field.
Experience
Two years plus of related experience.
Computer Skills
Keyboard skills. Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office and various web-based programs.
Communication Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm. Must be able to work about one weekend per month and 1-2 holidays per year.

Biosecurity
When visiting biosecure environments, showering before entering the facilities is required. The lab jobsite may require showering when leaving the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. Must sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds). The Company Animal Welfare Policy must be followed at all times.
Physical
Must use safe lifting techniques. While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop; talk, hear, and visually inspect results. The team member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While handling specimens, nitrile gloves and safety glasses must be worn. The team member may be exposed to standard laboratory chemicals.
