Role Overview
The Senior Solution Integrator - IBM Netcool is a hands-on technical role responsible for implementing, integrating, and supporting IBM Netcool-based event management solutions in multi-vendor telecom environments. The role focuses on probe onboarding, configuration, customization, and operational stability, working under defined architecture and standards provided by senior specialists or architects.
This role bridges solution design and operations, ensuring EMS integrations are delivered correctly, tested thoroughly, and supported reliably in production.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and configure IBM Netcool probes, including SNMP, CORBA, Kafka, JMS, and REST-based integrations, as per solution design.
- Onboard telecom EMS/NMS platforms (Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, ZTE, Cisco, Samsung) into Netcool under guidance from senior engineers.
- Configure probe properties, connectivity, security (SSL, authentication), and basic failover mechanisms.
- Maintain and update lookup files, rules files, and enrichment logic to support alarm normalization and routing.
- Develop and maintain probe rules for alarm parsing, severity mapping, enrichment, and deduplication.
- Implement basic ObjectServer automations, including triggers, procedures, and SQL scripts, following established standards.
- Support Impact policies and auto-ticketing workflows under guidance.
- Develop operational scripts using Shell, Perl, or Python to automate routine tasks and deployments.
- Execute functional, integration, and regression testing for new probes and enhancements.
- Validate alarm flows end-to-end from EMS → Probe → ObjectServer → WebGUI / ITSM.
- Perform basic performance validation and assist in load or soak testing.
- Provide L2/L3 support for production Netcool environments.
- Troubleshoot alarm ingestion issues, delays, duplicate alarms, and missing clears.
- Analyze logs from probes, ObjectServer, and middleware to identify root causes.
- Support incident, problem, and change management processes.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years hands-on experience with IBM Netcool/OMNIbus, Tivoli Monitoring, or similar large-scale event management platforms, with a deep understanding of their internal mechanics and limitations.
- Expertise in integrating event management with IT Service Management (ITSM) tools, Orchestration platforms, and big data analytics stacks.
- Strong background in software engineering principles, with proficiency in Core Java and/or Python for designing and reviewing complex integrations and automation.
- Mastery of automation and DevOps practices: Infrastructure as Code (Ansible), CI/CD (Jenkins, GitOps), and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- In-depth knowledge of telecom network technologies (4G/5G, OSS/BSS, FCAPS) and multi-vendor EMS/NMS landscapes.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to executive audiences.
