Fighting hubris, mission statement hypocrisy, and a tendency to overcomplicate things. We try to do good work each day.
The Role
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and maintain systems, mentor team members, and improve both code quality and team practices.
Summary Generated by Built In
Overview:
Corporate Tools is hiring Senior Software Engineers specializing in Ruby on Rails for up to $185,000/year. You will be a traditional company employee. This is a remote position, but if you're near one of our local offices, you're welcome to come hangout with us in-office as well. Our main offices are in Post Falls, ID, and Spokane, WA; we also have satellite offices in Austin, TX, and Salt Lake City, UT. You'll be working 40 hours a week and, of course, enjoy great company benefits.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be given large projects and be expected to break these projects into medium-sized tasks for our Software Engineers, all while maintaining focus on the big picture goals and projects. You will have the opportunity to make a direct impact on architecture design. You'll get to work with a team of engineers who like to do things the right way versus plowing through just to meet a goal. We have no investors or micro-managed goals. We just want to make high-end software that is easy to continually improve.
You can expect a diverse team with different backgrounds, experience and identities. You will have current members of the team eager to help you get up to speed as quickly as possible. Solid fundamentals with software, teamwork, systems, and troubleshooting will pave the way.
What's in a title?
Here at Corporate Tools we don't take titles very seriously. We know for recruiting purposes we need to call our jobs something, so we started with labeling and differentiating them in a fairly traditional way with "junior, mid, senior". However, we've realized that was putting our employees in a box and wasn't allowing us to uniquely identify their individual contributions, strengths and professional goals. Once you join our team the titles kinda get dropped as we expect everyone to work with everyone regardless of title or experience. We have taken the approach of evaluating candidates and employees on a "level" basis. It makes it a little easier internally to talk about growing into the next level without there being this huge chasm between what it means to be a Junior Engineer vs. a Mid Engineer. Our levels have expectations set for each one and it's the responsibility of the manager and employee to make sure there is alignment. We do this through quarterly conversations where we discuss employee progression, if the work is challenging, and to ensure they feel fairly compensated for their work and expertise. Basically, levels gives us more flexibility to help people grow in their careers. But sure, you can post your title on LinkedIn as what makes sense to the rest of the world.
Wage:
Up to $185,000/year
Benefits:
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental and vision for employees
  • Annual review with raise option
  • 22 days Paid Time Off accrued annually, and 4 holidays
    • After 3 years, PTO increases to 29 days. Employees transition to flexible time off after 5 years with the company-not accrued, not capped, take time off when you want

  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Up to 6% company matching 401(k) with no vesting period

What We Do

Corporate Tools LLC was created to make starting, running, and organizing a business easier. We service registered agent companies, business filing services, lawyers, accountants, corporate secretaries, governance professionals, small, medium, and massive corporate conglomerates.

Corporate Tools LLC is family-owned and operated, employs over 1,200 good humans across the nation, and services over 3 million active businesses nationwide. As we've grown, we've maintained a 95% employee retention rate. We have no debt, no investors, no venture capital, and no private equity.

What does it mean to be family-owned and operated?

Well, it's not perfect. But growth, profits, KPIs, endless investor meetings, warrants, options pools, vesting, or manipulating employees to be indentured servants in exchange for paper shares that won't make you rich, aren't things we have to deal with here.

We try to do good work and see where it goes. That's our actual mission statement. We try to make our customers and our employees happy. We get to focus on that versus making investors happy. We are well aware of competing with startups, and VC and PE-funded, or worse yet, public companies' total compensation packages, so we bring it up. We are different. Our packages include an excellent salary and 401K to buy stock wherever you want. We try to make our overall benefits better each year as we grow. We offer tough challenges—focusing on the journey as the reward, not the finish line. We try to hire people we enjoy being around.

We're not a platform or an AI cool guy place. We're not software as a service/whatever is the cool thing that gives investors a reason to ask for a higher multiple on their next round of stock dilution. Whoops, I mean, investment for the future.

We make business entity compliance tools. We power over 50,000 Professional Services that do registered agent service, corporate filings, VoIP phones, credit card processing, and various tech products. Here's a few examples of industry leaders riding on our backbone:

We made a CRM system but focused on a whole stack of solutions for our business services customers and now we're pretty busy and could use your help. Thanks for looking!

Why Work With Us

A mid sized company servicing millions of clients, employing hundreds, but being family owned and operated with no debt, investors, VC, or PE in the tech space is unique. We offer stability, flexibility, and an opportunity to make a high impact almost immediately. We don't sell data to third parties. We're extremely open source and privacy focused.
