The Opportunity

Picarro is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Software Engineer - Enterprise Software Development to play a key role in building and optimizing the software infrastructure and applications that powers the data analytics and decision-making capabilities of our scientific instruments. This role is central to enabling real-time insights from sensor-generated data, supporting machine learning pipelines, and driving innovation across our environmental and industrial applications.

As part of the Data Analytics team, you will develop high-performance data pipelines and infrastructure, integrating cutting-edge cloud technologies and scientific instrumentation. This is a hands-on development position that requires strong software engineering fundamentals, cloud expertise, and a passion for building robust and scalable systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement scalable, secure, and high-performance software infrastructure (on AWS and Linux).
• Design and develop robust data pipelines to support real-time analytics and machine learning.
• Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, and domain experts to optimize data flow, system performance, and insights delivery.
• Guide teams on CI/CD best practices, and container development and. orchestration (Docker, Ansible).
• Conduct architecture reviews, implement cost optimization strategies, and lead performance tuning initiatives.
• Manage integration of cloud services, API endpoints, and microservices architectures.
• Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to enhance system capabilities and maintain competitive advantage.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in enterprise software development and infrastructure, ideally in high-performance, data-intensive environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python and Ubuntu/Linux-based systems.
• Familiarity with ray.io, TimescaleDB plus. Experience in AWS services is good (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, VPC, etc.);
• Familiarity with Ansible, Docker, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Jupyter notebooks, panda, numpy and scikit
• Good understanding of cloud security, networking, and distributed systems architecture.
• Experience working in scientific, regulated, or instrumentation-focused environments (e.g., environmental monitoring, life sciences).
• Exposure to IoT devices and infrastructure a plus
