As a Senior Software Engineer for the Observability UI team, you will be at the center of shaping how users experience observability across Red Hat’s flagship enterprise products, including OpenShift and Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (RHACM).
The Observability UI team is unique: we don't just build interfaces; we serve as the engineering catalyst that connects various backend observability teams (metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting). In this role, you will lead complex technical topics, gather cross-functional requirements, and synthesize them into a seamless, intuitive "single pane of glass" user experience. If you are passionate about front-end excellence, system-level collaboration, and open-source innovation, this role is for you.
What you will do:
Lead & Architect: Drive the design, architecture, and implementation of high-performance, accessible, and scalable user interfaces for Red Hat’s observability portfolio.
Catalyze Collaboration: Partner closely with core observability teams, product management, and UX design to transform complex backend data (metrics, traces, logs) into unified UI workflows.
Own & Deliver: Act as the technical lead for cross-team initiatives, taking ownership of features from requirements gathering through to upstream open-source community release.
Mentor & Influence: Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and engineering excellence.
Community Engagement: Actively contribute to upstream open-source communities and represent Red Hat’s observability initiatives within the broader ecosystem.
What you will bring:
Technical Core5+ years of professional software development experience, with a heavy focus on modern front-end technologies.
Deep expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
Experience with cloud-native technologies, specifically Kubernetes and/or OpenShift.
Familiarity with foundational observability concepts and tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, Thanos, or Elasticsearch).
Experience visualizing complex data sets, timeseries metrics, and distributed tracing data.
Proven track record of leading cross-functional initiatives and managing stakeholders across different engineering domains.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills—the ability to act as a bridge between disparate teams and build consensus on technical directions.
Experience working within an agile development methodology.
Prior contributions to open-source projects or communities.
Experience working with enterprise design systems (such as Red Hat’s PatternFly).
Familiarity with backend languages used in cloud-native stacks (e.g., Go).
