The Browser Growth Engineering & Data Science team is responsible for building the platforms, services, and customer-facing experiences that help drive user growth, engagement, retention, and satisfaction across Edge and Copilot-powered experiences.

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to help shape the future of Microsoft Edge. This role combines product engineering, experimentation, telemetry, feedback systems, and AI-powered engineering solutions. You will design and deliver customer-facing features that drive growth while also building the underlying platforms that enable data-driven decision making at scale.

In this role, you will create impactful user experiences, leveraging data to guide decisions, and solving complex engineering challenges across client, service, and data platforms. You will work closely with Product Management, Design, Data Science, and engineering teams across Microsoft to drive innovation and measurable business impact.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and ship customer-facing Microsoft Edge features that drive user acquisition, engagement, retention, and growth.
  • Partner with Product Management, Design, and Data Science teams to identify growth opportunities and transform insights into impactful product experiences.
  • Build and operate scalable platforms and services that power experimentation, telemetry, customer feedback, analytics, and AI-driven scenarios.
  • Leverage experimentation, user research, telemetry, and feedback signals to make data-driven product decisions and continuously improve user experiences.
  • Drive end-to-end engineering projects from architecture and design through implementation, deployment, and live-site operations.
  • Develop secure, reliable, and high-performing systems that meet Microsoft's privacy, compliance, and security requirements.
  • Improve engineering productivity and product quality through automation, AI-assisted workflows, and intelligent operational tooling.
  • Design and maintain large-scale telemetry and data pipelines that enable actionable insights and measurement across Edge experiences.
  • Investigate and resolve complex production issues, driving improvements in reliability, performance, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Lead technical discussions, influence architecture decisions, and contribute to long-term platform and product strategy.
  • Collaborate across organizations to align technical solutions, share platform capabilities, and deliver cross-team initiatives.
  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence through code reviews, design reviews, and best engineering practices.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience 
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience 
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience developing large-scale commercial software, services, or cloud-based applications.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems, cloud services, or large-scale applications.
  • Solid software design, debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively across engineering, product, and data science teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects from concept to production with a focus on quality, reliability, and customer impact.
  • Experience developing consumer-facing product features that drive growth, engagement, retention, or monetization.
  • Experience with experimentation platforms, A/B testing, feature management systems, and data-driven product development.
  • Experience building telemetry, analytics, data pipelines, or large-scale measurement systems.
  • Experience applying AI or machine learning technologies to engineering productivity, product experiences, or operational workflows.
  • Familiarity with customer feedback systems, recommendation systems, classification pipelines, or intelligent triage solutions.
  • Knowledge of privacy, compliance, governance, and Responsible AI principles for large-scale consumer products.
  • Experience with Azure services, cloud-native architectures, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Proven ability to influence technical direction and lead complex cross-organizational initiatives.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
