Job Description
Just imagine helping shape how manufacturing knowledge becomes reliable software used across our factories. Then make it real.
About the role
As our Senior Software Engineer, you’ll join a new manufacturing technology initiative where many of the answers haven’t been decided yet. We’re exploring how manufacturing recipes, processes and production knowledge can move from fragmented systems and ways of working into scalable digital solutions used across our manufacturing landscape.
You’ll join at the beginning. The initial phase is discovery: understanding how manufacturing processes work today, learning from what already exists and helping translate our manufacturing strategy into a technical direction. Then comes the important part: you’ll help build and implement what we decide.
This is software with a physical consequence. Our manufacturing solutions interact with production environments that operate continuously and with high levels of precision. Connectivity can’t always be assumed, and availability matters. That changes the engineering decisions we make around architecture, resilience, deployment and how systems behave when things don’t go to plan.
You’ll be part of a small team working closely with a Lead Engineer, product teams and manufacturing specialists. The longer-term team setup is still taking shape, just as some of the technology decisions are. So we’re not looking for someone to arrive and follow an architecture that has already been decided. We’re looking for someone who can investigate, question, design and then help turn those decisions into software that works in the reality of manufacturing.
Required Qualifications
- Designed software architectures and production solutions in software development, covering distributed systems, APIs, integration patterns or event-driven architecture.
- Delivered hybrid cloud, on-premises or edge solutions that continue operating when network connectivity is unavailable.
- Built solutions using AWS in complex enterprise environments, making decisions about scalability, resilience, performance, cost and maintainability.
- Implemented continuous integration and delivery pipelines, automated testing, and observability for software supporting operational environments.
- Deployed containerised solutions and infrastructure as code using Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform or equivalent technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Developed software using modern object-oriented technologies such as C# and .NET.
- Built or maintained manufacturing applications such as Manufacturing Execution Systems or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems.
- Applied ISA-95 or IEC 62264 standards when designing manufacturing systems and integrations.
- Created manufacturing solutions using Unified Namespace patterns, ontologies or knowledge graphs.
What you'll build
- Shape architecture and engineering practices for our evolving manufacturing landscape.
- Explore how manufacturing processes and knowledge can become scalable digital solutions.
- Build secure, resilient software for operational environments.
- Improve live products through monitoring, observability and systematic debugging.
If you’ve owned software from architectural decisions through delivery and operation, you’ll feel at home here. What matters most is your ability to question assumptions, solve complex problems and think beyond the immediate solution.
Life on the team
You’ll work in a small team within Manufacturing Technology, collaborating closely with engineering and manufacturing colleagues. Curiosity matters here. So does constructive technical debate, sharing what you know and being comfortable saying when an answer still needs to be discovered.
What success looks like
You’ll help turn an emerging manufacturing strategy into resilient software that supports physical production. You’ll balance architecture with practical delivery while working closely with the Lead Engineer, product teams and manufacturing specialists to create solutions built for the realities of manufacturing.
