DigitalOcean's Agentic AI organization provides a powerful inference cloud, Managed Agents, and robust Feedback systems that enable customers to run AI inference confidently at scale. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer I (Full Stack) to join our Feedback Systems team. This team is responsible for building the scalable backend infrastructure and the critical user interfaces that test, evaluate, and visualize the behavior of AI agents safely and reliably.
In this role, you will work across the stack — designing high-throughput backend systems that orchestrate complex execution workflows and interface with isolated execution environments, while also building the data-rich, interactive dashboards and forms developers use to configure evaluation parameters, monitor long-running asynchronous workflows, and analyze side-by-side evaluation trajectories. You will solve problems at the intersection of distributed systems, asynchronous data flows, and developer-facing UI/UX for a platform that tests inherently non-deterministic AI agents.
What You’ll Do:- Designing, building, and maintaining robust backend services and highly concurrent asynchronous workflows, primarily in Python and Go.
- Building highly interactive, data-dense frontend interfaces (React, TypeScript) for configuring complex multi-turn agent interactions and viewing detailed evaluation reports.
- Integrating backend control planes with isolated, secure execution environments to safely run agents and capture execution artifacts.
- Building and operating scalable APIs (gRPC, REST) that connect data pipelines, evaluation engines, and internal platforms — and consuming those same APIs to trigger asynchronous evaluation runs and stream real-time status updates in the UI.
- Managing complex client-side application state and efficiently rendering large volumes of evaluation data, telemetry, and side-by-side comparison views in the browser.
- Championing a top-tier developer experience, ensuring the tools you build are intuitive, performant, and reduce cognitive load for users testing non-deterministic AI agents.
- Collaborating closely with cross-functional partners — backend and frontend engineers, product managers, and UX designers — to ensure infrastructure and interfaces together support complex evaluation scenarios and outcome metrics.
- Driving engineering best practices across the stack, including code reviews, comprehensive testing, accessibility, component reusability, and technical design documentation.
- Monitoring system performance, investigating bottlenecks, and ensuring high reliability of orchestration systems and the interfaces built on top of them.
- 5+ years of software engineering experience spanning both backend and frontend development, including highly concurrent, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
- Deep proficiency in Python and Go for backend services (or strong experience in C++/Java with a willingness to master Python and Go quickly), alongside deep proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and frontend frameworks such as React.
- Hands-on experience with durable workflow orchestration engines for managing distributed state and long-running asynchronous tasks.
- Strong working knowledge of containerization, virtualization, or secure workload isolation technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, or microVMs).
- Experience building resilient APIs (gRPC, REST, or GraphQL) and handling high-throughput event or message data, including streaming updates to client applications.
- Proven experience building complex, data-heavy web applications, internal dashboards, or developer-facing tooling, with a strong understanding of browser rendering performance and complex state management.
- Design fluency with the ability to partner seamlessly with designers and the confidence to lead design decisions when needed; comfort navigating, extracting assets from, and iterating within Figma; familiarity with schema validation tools like Zod is a plus.
- AI/ML Ecosystem Awareness: While you do not need to be an ML researcher, you possess a strong foundational understanding of interacting with LLM APIs, prompt constraints, handling LLM outputs (including rendering markdown/code blocks), and the unique architectural challenges of testing non-deterministic systems.
- A strong sense of ownership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a globally distributed team.
