You bring strong role-related expertise and sharp thinking, and you're motivated by our mission and operating principles. You move fast with good judgment, dig deep with curiosity, and make decisions from first principles, balancing speed and rigor.
You're humble and collaborative; turn zero-to-one ideas into real products, and you "get stuff done" end-to-end. You use AI to work smarter and solve problems faster. Here, you'll tackle complex, high-visibility problems with exceptional teammates and grow your career as we build the future of global banking. If that sounds like you, let's build what's next.
About the team
The Regulatory Reporting team builds and operates Airwallex's automated compliance reporting pipeline across 10+ jurisdictions globally. We own the full data pipeline - transaction classification, FX conversion, entity filtering, report generation, and submission tooling - processing hundreds of millions of financial events monthly.
What you'll do
You will design, build, and maintain the data pipelines and backend services that produce Airwallex's regulatory reports. This is a high-precision domain - a missed transaction or a misclassified payment type has direct compliance consequences.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain regulatory reporting data models, covering transaction classification, FX conversion, account filtering, and multi-entity aggregation.
- Develop backend services and APIs that power submission tooling, report scheduling, and compliance dashboards.
- Implement data quality checks, reconciliation pipelines, and automated alerting to ensure report accuracy.
- Investigate data anomalies and discrepancies across source systems spanning payments, issuing, wallet, and FX domains.
- Extend AI-assisted tooling: LLM-powered regulatory interpretation, automated gap analysis, and agent-based review workflows.
- Work closely with Compliance to understand new regulatory requirements and translate them into reliable, auditable data models.
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and on-call rotation for production reporting systems.
Who you are
Minimum qualifications
- Strong SQL skills; comfortable writing complex analytical queries across large datasets.
- Experience with Python or Kotlin/Java for backend services and data pipeline development.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and data pipeline design.
- Rigorous about data correctness; comfortable working in high-stakes, low-tolerance-for-error domains.
Preferred qualifications
- Hands-on experience with dbt, Databricks, Spark, or BigQuery in a production analytics engineering context.
- Familiarity with financial transaction data - payment flows, FX, settlement, ledger mechanics.
- Experience in regulatory, compliance, or financial crime data domains.
- Exposure to LLM/agent tooling (RAG pipelines, MCP, tool-use frameworks) in a production context.
- Experience with streaming data (Kafka, Kafka Streams, Flink) and event-driven architectures.
- Knowledge of Kotlin and Spring Boot.
