We're the Insurance team at Expedia Group, and we're on a mission to redefine how travelers experience peace of mind during their journeys. We work closely with different insurance suppliers to onboard their products into our systems and make them available to customers during various booking journeys — such as during checkout, post-purchase, and even through trip management pages. Our team ensures the right protection is offered at the right time, making travel safer and more confident for millions of users.
In this role, you will:
Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, scalable, and reliable software services and components, including robust low-level designs, APIs, and data models that support critical business capabilities.
Own end-to-end delivery of features and services from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, and operational support, ensuring performance, security, and maintainability.
Lead and participate in system design and code reviews, providing constructive feedback, driving engineering best practices, and elevating code quality and technical standards across the team.
Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions, making pragmatic trade-offs between scope, performance, and long-term maintainability.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex production issues, improve observability, and drive operational excellence through automation, runbooks, and continuous improvement of deployment and release processes.
Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products where appropriate.
Experience and Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.
8+ years of relevant experience in backend development in Java/Kotlin
Substantial experience as a software development engineer building, testing, and operating production-grade services or applications, including owning features or services through the full software development lifecycle.
Exposure to frontend technologies (React, Angular,Javascript) is preferred
Proven ability to design and implement clean low-level designs, APIs, and data models, write high-quality code, and apply core computer science and engineering fundamentals to solve complex technical problems.
Demonstrated experience with modern software development practices such as version control, CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, and monitoring/alerting to ensure reliable operation of services in production, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience designing and evolving large-scale, distributed systems or services, including making architectural decisions, defining interfaces and data contracts, and ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance.
Track record of leading technical delivery for complex projects, breaking down ambiguous problems, driving alignment on design decisions, and mentoring other engineers in system design, low-level design, API design, and data modeling.
Strong focus on operational excellence, including deep experience with observability, performance tuning, incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement of deployment and release processes.
Demonstrated use of data and metrics to inform technical decisions, validate assumptions, and optimize system behavior, including experimentation or A/B testing where applicable.
Experience integrating or extending AI/ML capabilities within software systems (for example via platform APIs, SDKs, or services) to enhance user experiences or business outcomes, and the ability to guide teams on responsible, safe use of AI in production workflows, including safely integrating and operating AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes.
