You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.

Apptronik is looking for a Senior R&D Electrical Engineer to lead the design of dexterous multi-finger robotic hands. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in miniature robotic system design including experience with electromechanical integration. A comprehensive understanding of the interdependencies between hardware design and control systems would be critical in this role. We are looking for a well-rounded engineer in terms of technical ability who is capable of rapid prototyping and designing for high volume production.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES or KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead the design of the electrical subsystem for a dexterous multi-finger robotic hand through several quick, iterative development cycles
  • Participate in system level decisions around hand design architecture
  • Experience with small scale multi-axis motor driver architecture and PCB design
  • Lead concept generation, PCB CAD design, analysis, documentation and verification to assess technical and commercialization feasibility.
  • Prototype and experiment with hand electrical subsystems to assess concept feasibility


SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Expert in using PCB CAD software for motor driver designs
  • Experience designing and building prototype hardware
  • Experienced with simulation and analysis methodology
  • Experience with fingertip sensing technologies
  • Experience with electromechanical integration, such as sensors, motors, motor drivers, wire harnesses, and communication buses
  • Experience designing complex, highly articulated robotic assemblies
  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art dexterous robotics manipulation


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in Electrical, Biomechanical, Robotics, Mechatronics, or similar field
  • 5+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering solving complex electro-mechanical problems.
  • 5+ years demonstrated success delivering complex electromechanical systems including robots, industrial automation equipment or similar systems that combine actuation systems, motion control, custom sensor integration and electronics
  • Experience in rapid prototyping and fabrication


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen
  • Hearing and speech to communicate
