Job Summary
The primary purpose of the Senior R&D Engineer is to lead efforts to design, develop, test and refine new electromechanical medical devices for Cardinal Health. Specifically, this job assists in creation, improvements, and maintenance of compression durable devices. A significant amount of time in this job is spent working to develop product specifications and drawings, test plans and reports, as well as planning and reporting on project deliverables and milestones. As part of working in a cross-functional technical environment, this job requires coordination with manufacturers, business partners, and vendors, worldwide to ensure project success.
Responsibilities
Designs and tests new products for six sigma manufacturability and conducts tests to ensure efficacy of manufacturing processes, including simulating manufacturing processes to identify problems, predict, and mitigate failures.
Troubleshoots various issues that arise pertaining to concept designs and production products through testing and computer-based statistical analysis (ANOVA, test comparisons, Monte Carlo simulations etc.).
Maintains accurate and organized technical records to conform with applicable procedures and standards. Able to produce clear, structured documentation (e.g., design specs, test plans, reports) that enables efficient knowledge transfer across teams, finished good product quality, and supports continuity when personnel change.
Ensure traceability of decisions and changes by consistently documenting design rationale, assumptions, and revision history so that project evolution is clear and decisions can be audited or revisited later.
Able to balance multiple assignments, monitor milestones, and proactively communicate status, risks, or delays to ensure projects stay aligned with objectives.
Interacts with external personnel and manufacturers on significant cross-functional programs. Oversees component manufacturing processes to ensure quality with respect to finished products.
Qualifications
2-4 years of experience, preferred
Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
