Job Purpose

The Senior Project Engineer will oversee the engineering, construction, and project delivery of onshore oil and gas projects, ensuring all engineering outputs meet stringent safety, quality, and operational standards. This leadership role involves strategic collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to drive project success from inception through commissioning, with a focus on mentoring junior staff and optimizing project processes.

Job Responsibilities

• Strategic Project Oversight: Lead the planning, scheduling, and execution of on-site engineering activities, ensuring alignment with project objectives, budgets, and timelines.
• Technical Leadership: Provide advanced technical review of engineering designs, plans, and specifications; ensure solutions align with industry best practices and project requirements.
• Cross-Functional Leadership: Coordinate effectively with project management, procurement, construction, and safety teams to streamline project delivery and resolve complex technical issues.
• Risk Management & Troubleshooting: Proactively identify potential project risks; develop mitigation strategies and address technical challenges swiftly to maintain project momentum.
• Quality & Compliance: Champion quality assurance initiatives; uphold safety, environmental, and regulatory standards across all project phases.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams; effectively communicate project status, risks, and mitigation plans.
• Mentorship & Team Development: Mentor junior engineers and site personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and technical excellence.
• Continuous Improvement: Drive lessons learned, process improvements, and innovation to enhance project efficiency and quality.

Technical Skills

• Extensive experience in execution of engineering for large-scale onshore oil and gas projects.
• Proficiency with advanced engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SAP, PDMS, etc.) or the tools used for mechanical and project management.
• Deep comprehension of industry standards, codes, and best practices applicable to oil and gas project execution.
• Proven expertise in construction methodologies, commissioning, and operational handover processes.

Qualifications

• Masters or Bachelor’s in Engineering or a related discipline; advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., PMP, PE) are advantageous.
• Minimum of 12+ years of relevant experience in onshore oil and gas projects, emphasizing and project execution.
• Proven track record of managing large, complex projects with a focus on safety and quality.

Work Environment

This position will be based on-site in Iraq, engaging with international and local teams. The senior role emphasizes leadership in fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing work environment, with a focus on mentorship, safety culture, and stakeholder relations.
