We are looking for an experienced Senior Product Manager to spearhead the development of solutions that empower customers to deploy, manage, and maintain their CockroachDB clusters with ease across diverse environments through the creation of Kubernetes-native and non-Kubernetes tooling that works effortlessly with major cloud providers, self-hosted data centers and even hybrid cloud environments.
By focusing on user-friendly, robust tools that simplify complex tasks such as deploying, scaling, and upgrading CockroachDB’s stateful distributed system, you'll unlock customer’s ability to quickly and seamlessly grow their usage of CockroachDB and directly contribute to rapid market growth. Your innovative solutions will help customers overcome operational challenges, allowing them to fully leverage CockroachDB's scalability, fault tolerance, and consistent performance across global deployments.
You will primarily partner with the Cluster Management engineering team based in Bangalore but will also work closely with other DB and Cloud engineering teams to execute your strategy.
You will:
- Define and prioritize the product roadmap for cluster management tools, balancing customer needs, market trends, and business objectives
- Lead the prioritization, UX definition and strategy for CockroachDB's cluster management tools, including both Kubernetes-native (helm chart and operator) and non-Kubernetes solutions
- Collaborate closely with the fleet management and cloud admin teams to ensure seamless integration and cohesive user experience across all deployment scenarios
- Develop comprehensive best practices for CockroachDB deployment, management, and maintenance across various environments and work with the documentation and training teams to develop educational resources
- Engage with customers and internal stakeholders to gather requirements, validate features, and iterate on solutions
- Coordinate with marketing and sales teams to effectively communicate the value proposition of CockroachDB's cluster management capabilities
In the first 30-60 days, you will go through PM onboarding with your onboarding mentor (Roachmate). You will familiarize yourself with the current state of our cluster management capabilities. You will deploy clusters using various tools and environments to try out the core features and get a sense of the end-to-end experience for yourself. You’ll review our current backlog, get up to speed on in-flight features, and understand the most pressing customer problems today.
After 90 days, you will be fully integrated into the team. You will conduct customer calls and work with our internal account teams to understand core customer problems. There are countless opportunities for us to invest in and you will be responsible for prioritising the ones that will exceed our customer’s expectations and allow them to seamlessly integrate CockroachDB into their operations, without ever worrying about the operational cost. As the owner of an integral part of our customer and product growth, you will be an important advisor to senior members of our team as we determine how operational simplicity can support and accelerate our growth. You will also be expected to be a partner to our sales team and meet with our most important customers and their DevOps and SRE teams.
You Have- CS Degree, or equivalent software engineering or solutions engineering background, with a focus on technology deployment, infrastructure management, SRE, SysAdmin or DevOps
- Minimum 6 years of total work experience and 4+ years as a PM working with tech infrastructure, enterprise or SaaS products
- Experience with IaaS, PaaS, IaC and Kubernetes
- Proven ability to partner with senior engineering teams, lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects across multiple time zones and customer markets to deliver customer-facing products
- Background working directly with medium-sized to large enterprises to understand and address problems, set proper timelines and expectations around feature delivery to internal stakeholders and external teams
- A collaborative approach and an eagerness to partner with other product teams and all other functions in the company, such as Legal, Finance, Marketing, and Sales

Reporting to Michael Wang - Director of PM, Database Platform
Michael is responsible for many of the core database experiences, including deploying and operating the database, distributing data, running sql queries, scalability, and resilience to failure. Michael joined in 2020 and has worked across nearly all aspects of the database. He is excited to continue working on what he believes is a truly industry-transforming database technology. When not at work, Michael enjoys trying out new recipes in the kitchen, hiking, biking, skiing, and generally being outdoors with his wife and two kids in Utah, and cheering on his favourite sports teams.

BabuSrithar is the Site Leader for India. He is responsible for our growth strategy and is a cultural champion in the region. He is passionate about building high-quality software products and lean teams by leveraging everyone's potential. He enjoys working with people and learning along the way. Before joining Cockroach Labs, BabuSrithar held senior leadership positions at companies like Nutanix, Clumio, and recently he was VP of engineering at Apty, where he led the engineering globally. When not at work, he enjoys his time with his 5-year-old and family.
