Senior Product Analyst – Financials
Please note: applicants must have full Australian working rights, as visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
About us
At Datacom, we combine technology, expertise, and talented people to help organisations thrive in a rapidly changing world. As one of Australasia's leading technology providers, we work with customers across industries to solve real-world problems and deliver meaningful outcomes.
Whether we're supporting governments, enterprise organisations, or growing businesses, we're committed to creating meaningful outcomes for our customers, communities, and each other.
About the role
As a Senior Product Analyst – Financials, you will work within the Datascape product team, helping design and deliver enterprise software used by councils across Australia and New Zealand.
Datascape is Datacom’s local government ERP platform. It supports councils in managing core operational and corporate processes, including finance, property, rating, regulatory, customer, and digital services. This role sits specifically within the Financials domain, where accuracy, auditability, compliance, and strong accounting logic are critical.
You will work closely with Product Managers, Product Leads, Engineering, QA, UX, implementation teams, and customers to understand business problems, analyse accounting and financial processes, and translate these into clear, well-structured requirements for delivery.
This is not a generic business analyst role. We are looking for someone who can bring genuine hands-on accounting experience with genuine Systems Accounting expertise.
You will be joining Datascape during an exciting phase of growth, with significant opportunity to shape features that support councils in delivering trusted services to their communities.
What you’ll do
In this role, you will:
- Analyse complex financial and accounting processes and translate them into clear product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and supporting documentation.
- Work with Product Managers and Product Leads to shape the Financials roadmap and backlog, ensuring work is well understood, appropriately prioritised, and aligned to customer and business value.
- Partner with Engineering, QA, UX, and technical leads to design solutions that are practical, scalable, testable, and aligned to accounting and compliance requirements.
- Act as a bridge between finance users, product stakeholders, and delivery teams, ensuring the software reflects how finance teams actually work.
- Facilitate workshops, discovery sessions, and analysis discussions with internal stakeholders, customers, and implementation teams.
- Break down large, complex, or poorly defined problems into meaningful, deliverable pieces of work.
- Identify financial, compliance, audit, data integrity, and reporting risks early and help shape appropriate product responses.
- Support QA by defining clear scenarios, edge cases, expected outcomes, and acceptance criteria for financially sensitive functionality.
- Use AI tools as part of your everyday workflow to support research, analysis, documentation, scenario generation, and review of requirements.
What you’ll bring
We are looking for someone with strong analysis capability and genuine accounting fluency.
You will bring:
- Proven experience as a Senior Business Analyst, Product Analyst, Functional Consultant, Finance Systems Analyst, or similar role in a software, ERP, SaaS, or complex enterprise environment.
- Hands-on accounting or finance experience, ideally gained through working in a finance team, accounting role, finance systems role, ERP implementation role, or financial software product environment.
- Strong understanding of core accounting concepts such as general ledger, subledgers, journals, accruals, GST/tax, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, payments, receipting, financial reporting, audit trails, and period-based processing.
- The ability to understand how financial transactions are created, posted, reversed, allocated, reported, and audited within an ERP system.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, concise documentation for both business and technical audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work through complex scenarios, identify edge cases, and define expected system behaviour.
- Experience working with software delivery teams in an Agile environment.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Product Managers, engineers, testers, designers, implementation consultants, support teams, and customer stakeholders.
- Strong facilitation skills, including the ability to lead workshops and guide stakeholders toward clear decisions.
- Good data literacy, including an understanding of how business data is structured, linked, validated, and reported.
- Commercial awareness and a focus on delivering customer value while managing risk and complexity.
- Confidence using AI tools to improve the speed, quality, and completeness of analysis and documentation.
Accounting experience is important
Because this role works directly on Financials product functionality, accounting knowledge is essential.
This role would suit someone who has worked as a:
- Finance Systems Analyst
- ERP Functional Consultant
- Product Analyst in a finance/accounting domain
- Senior Business Analyst on finance or ERP projects
- Accountant or finance professional who has moved into systems, product, or technology delivery
- Implementation consultant for financial software
If your experience is purely technical or general business analysis without exposure to accounting or financial systems, this role is unlikely to be the right fit.
