About us
Dyson is a global technology company. We solve the problems others ignore, defy convention, and engineer products that simply work better. Our people are trusted with responsibility from day one, thrive on challenge, and learn fast in a fast-moving environment. You'll join a diverse global network, sharing ideas and driving relentless improvement.
As part of the Power Systems Motors Engineering function, our Engineering Analysis team is responsible for the simulation, performance, analysis, and experimental verification of Dyson’s digital motor projects. Our expertise spans fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, acoustics, vibrations, rotor dynamics, structural analysis, and data analysis. We use advanced analysis methods to ensure our motors are optimised and robust engineered for true performance.
About the role
We are looking for a Lead Rotor Dynamics and Vibration Engineer to work within our Engineering Analysis PTC team, to apply her/his skills and experience in Rotor Dynamics, Vibration and FEA to deliver our Dyson internally developed digital motor technologies and their product integration. You will use advanced analysis, simulation, and real-world testing to optimise motor reliability, minimise vibration, and unlock new standards in noise and vibration performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Rotor Dynamics Analysis: Simulate and analyse the behaviour of high-speed rotors using modelling tools (such as ANSYS, or MATLAB) to ensure optimal dynamic stability.
- Vibration Testing & Control: Design and conduct vibration tests using accelerometers, laser vibrometers, and other specialised equipment to measure and mitigate vibration in prototypes and production units.
- Root Cause Investigation: Diagnose sources of vibration and instability, propose and implement design changes, and validate effectiveness.
- Design Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams—including motor control, mechanical, and acoustic engineers—to ensure designs meet demanding performance and reliability standards.
- Continuous Improvement: Research, test, and apply the latest techniques in vibration reduction and rotor dynamics to further improve product performance and user experience.
- Documentation: Clearly document analysis, findings, and recommendations for design and manufacturing teams.
About you
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering or a related engineering field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 5 years related experience in a high-technology engineering field, demonstrating a solid technical skill set and disciplined delivery of product development projects;
- Experience coaching or guiding junior team members.
- Fundamental knowledge in one or more of the areas: Structural Dynamics, Rotor Dynamics, Vibrations and Acoustics.
- Good understanding of experimental techniques and statistical data analysis, particularly about vibration, natural frequency or acoustic measurement.
- Experience and understanding of rotating machinery design is preferred.
- Experience and understanding of signal data processing and Matlab software is preferred.
- Experience in using Finite Element Analysis software such as ANSYS, Nastran, or Abaqus is a plus.
- Experience in using programming languages such as Python, or similar is a plus.
- Experience in implementing test systems automation is a plus.
- A logical thinker with excellent attention to detail and a proven structured approach to creative problem solving.
- Ability to communicate appropriate, concise, and accurate information in written and verbal format.

What We Do
At Dyson we are focused on solving the problems that others have ignored; solving them first using our technology and ingenuity. In order to achieve this we need to pioneer technologies that are different and authentic. This is the core of what we do and who we are. We must strive to create the future, every single day by developing new things, different things, things that go against the grain with a diverse and global team of ingenious minds. Dyson employs over 14,000 people and is present in more than 80 countries. And while we are growing fast we want Dyson to remain a start-up in spirit with the freedom of experimentation and learning, constantly reinventing our products as well as reinventing how we work, how we sell and how we support our owners. At the same time we are working through the James Dyson Foundation, James Dyson Award and Dyson Institute to inspire future engineers and pioneering a new approach to engineering education. Underlining everything we do in this diverse environment is the need to always show respect, supporting each other as one team to overcome whatever challenges we encounter. We drive empowerment, development and equality in an inclusive environment for our people around the world. The future doesn’t just happen, we look to make it happen, to achieve leaps through pioneering new ideas
