Location: Warsaw-hybrid

The Senior Performance Test Engineer will own performance engineering outcomes for complex distributed systems (web applications, APIs, and microservices). This role is responsible for defining non-functional requirements and performance KPIs, and for leading root-cause analysis in close partnership with Engineering, SRE, Platform, and Product teams.

You will also design and build reusable performance testing frameworks and tooling that can be integrated into the CI/CD pipelines used by our engineering teams, enabling scalable and consistent performance validation across products.

Finally, you will act as a mentor and enabler for multiple agile teams, helping them build the capability to create, run, and maintain performance tests as part of feature delivery and refactoring—so performance becomes an embedded part of our engineering culture.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain performance test frameworks using tools such as JMeter/Gatling/Locust, with reusable modules and automation-first, CI-ready execution.

  • Define and execute performance strategies including load, stress, endurance/soak, spike, scalability/capacity, and batch workload performance testing, based on production usage patterns and business-critical journeys.

  • Partner with Product/SRE/Engineering to define and evolve NFRs/SLOs/SLIs (p95/p99 latency, throughput, error rate, saturation) and translate them into scenarios, pass/fail thresholds, and regression detection.

  • Define performance test environments (sizing, parity, dependencies, realistic data volumes) and coordinate with Platform/Infra to ensure readiness and repeatability.

  • Establish CI/CD performance gates (thresholds, trend analysis, reporting), and automate execution, reporting, and artifact retention/integration with pipelines and relevant tools.

  • Perform root-cause analysis of regressions and scalability failures; drive fixes with teams and verify improvements via targeted re-tests and controlled experiments.

  • Use JVM diagnostics where relevant (e.g., JProfiler, Java GC understanding, heap/thread dump analysis) and leverage observability/APM (Datadog is a plus) to correlate results with system signals.

  • Mentor and enable multiple agile teams with templates, reference implementations, reviews, and playbooks so performance testing becomes part of each team’s Definition of Done.

Required qualifications:

  • 8–10 years in performance testing/engineering using at least one tool (JMeter/Gatling/Locust) with strong hands-on experience.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain reusable test frameworks with gates, thresholds, and regression detection/trending.

  • Experience performance testing distributed systems and creating realistic workload models from production patterns.

  • Hands-on experience across various performance testing strategies with clear entry/exit criteria and actionable analysis.

Preferred qualifications (Nice-to-have)

  • JVM profiling and diagnostics (JProfiler, GC, heap/thread dumps).

  • APM/observability expertise.

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud CI/CD (e.g., AWS).
