Join our talented Wen Automation Engineering team and help us to move to the next level. You will work alongside Engineering Manager Vladimír Zahajský, Senior Web Automation Engineers Lukáš Křivka and Andrey Bykov, and 20 talented engineers. Web Automation Engineering team is part of Apify Engineering led by CTO Marek Trunkát.
What you will be working on?
- You will be responsible for the technical excellence of our team
- You will improve our code quality and establish new best practices for writing effective Actors.
- You will use code reviews, mentoring, and tooling among other approaches to achieve this.
- You will work on team-wide initiatives such as GitHub CI/CD pipeline, and testing framework.
- You will establish and improve the usage of developer tools to increase productivity and ensure quality.
- Through consulting and mentoring, you will unblock complex challenges engineers face in their projects. You will, of course, contribute with code as well.
- You will consistently improve documentation, tutorials, and onboarding both for our internal engineering and also for the broader community of Apify and Crawlee users.
- This role doesn’t require direct management of reports but we are open to it if you would prefer it.
- You will improve our code quality and establish new best practices for writing effective Actors.
- You will cooperate with other engineering and product teams
- You will drive a tight feedback loop with open-source Tooling and Product teams, ensuring they provide the best platform to deliver on for customers.
- You will collaborate with other engineering teams to improve team technical prowess.
Who are we looking for?
- You are highly skilled at developing and debugging in JavaScript/Node.js programs.
- You have at least 4 years of professional or open-source experience where you collaborated on a significant project within a team.
- You consider code quality, readability, and frequent refactoring essential to developing a maintainable solution.
- You are a team player who enjoys sharing their skills and knowledge with colleagues and you have experience with code reviews, documentation writing, and mentoring more junior engineers
- Owning a university degree in software engineering or computer science is also a plus, but not a requirement
Our tech stack:
- Development: Node.js (with Typescript), Chrome Dev Tools, Crawlee, Apify SDK, Puppeteer, Playwright, JQuery/Cheerio, GitHub Actions, Vitest + many other specialized libraries. We use Apify Actors for a lot of internal stuff as well. We also released Python SDK lately and are acquiring expertise in Python scraping tools.
- Environment: Local IDE for development & testing. Then deploy to the Apify Platform via GitHub CI/CD for production
- Tools: GitHub, ZenHub, Notion, GSuite, GitHub Copilot free license
- Process: in-depth onboarding, code reviews, tests, automating whatever we can, using common sense over strict processes, focus on high readability and documentation
