The Senior Messaging Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, management, engineering, and support of Goodwin's messaging infrastructure. Focuses on optimizing stability, availability, reliability, and performance. Monitors and controls messaging processes and implements system security to provide stable and secure systems platforms. Leads and assists with the implementation of new or additional messaging technology to improve infrastructure service. Assists with resource and workload management and capacity planning. Effectively manages messaging technology life-cycles, providing input into budget preparation. Requires rotating on-call for after-hours support and infrastructure patching.

What You Will Do:

  • Provides full design, planning, configuration, documentation, deployment and top-level support ownership of messaging infrastructure technologies.
  • Working with the Infrastructure Team, develops documented firm standards for messaging technology. Ensures adherence to those standards and monitors the messaging environment.
  • Experience with Exchange on premise to Exchange Online migrations, including hybrid compatibility scenarios, connectivity, and interoperability.
  • Coordinates and manages changes to the production messaging environment including partnering with vendors to manage updates, manages vendor relationships.
  • Assists with resolution of escalated incidents and participates in problem management activities.
  • Maintains awareness of industry trends and their advantages with the ability to make recommendations for improving technology used by the firm.
  • Assists in negotiations and recommendations of software and hardware purchasing agreements.
  • Participates in and/or manages cross-functional team projects to implement new or updated technology.
  • Cross-trains other IT staff in the use or maintenance of messaging technology.
  • Effectively manages medium to large projects, including writing the project charter.
  • Displays professionalism, quality service and a "can do" attitude to internal members/departments of the Firm as well as external clients and vendors via electronic and print correspondence, over the telephone and in-person.

Who You Are:

  • BA/BS or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years' experience in relevant technology and business skills as detailed above.
  • Knowledge of ITIL Service Management principles.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills as necessary to communicate and coordinate with others on both routine and non-routine matters.
  • Recommend sound and effective infrastructure design that align with business objectives
  • Make significant decisions and recommendations on complex issues to achieve long-term results and strategic objectives, and demonstrates attention to detail and sensitivity to confidential and proprietary information
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures for use by Information Technology including development of processes to ensure consistent execution of repeatable tasks.
  • Effectively coordinate teamwork activities, organizing and running effective meetings.
  • Understands and analyzes industry technology trends and their relevance to the GoodwinLaw environment.

Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of multiple technology areas including several of the following
  • Administration of global corporate email systems based on Microsoft Exchange including high availability and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Implementation and support of multiple Exchange 2016 Database Available Groups including cross site replication.
  • Experience with writing scripts to help report on and automate tasks, particularly with Powershell and the Exchange Management Shell.
  • Advanced administration of Microsoft Active Directory, including Group Policy, Federation, Certificate Services, and file replication technologies.
  • M365 user, group, and device management technologies, including Intune and device management
  • EDiscovery capabilities including the M365 Compliance Portal
  • Entra ID, Roles Based Access Control in Azure/M365
  • Email security tools and methods including TLS, DKIM, DMARC, SPF, and anti-virus and services such as Mimecast Messaging Gateway, Microsoft Exchange Online Protection, Proofpoint, or related technologies.
  • Deployment and configuration of messaging monitoring tools such as Logic Monitor
  • Proficiency with mobile-device-management (MDM) platforms, including provisioning and control, specifically operations with Exchange ActiveSync.
  • Experience with cloud email archiving solutions like Mimecast

Additional knowledge in one or more of the following technology areas:

  • Server storage design and configuration with SAN, NAS, iSCSI, direct-attached storage and storage virtualization.
  • Network communication protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL/TLS, RMI, RPC, etc.).
  • M365 Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Bookings, Azure AD Connect
  • Proficiency with backup technologies and server/mailbox/folder/item restore procedures and capabilities.
