Position Overview:

Reporting to the U.S. Chief Actuary, the Senior Managing Actuary, Treaty Reinsurance Pricing will build and lead the technical pricing of Ascot’s treaty reinsurance portfolio, delivering rigorous pricing, structuring, and profitability analysis across casualty, professional, and specialty treaty lines. Partnering closely with underwriting leadership and brokers, the Senior Managing Actuary will evaluate individual treaty submissions, shape portfolio strategy, and provide the analytical insight that underpins disciplined capital deployment and profitable growth. This is a high-visibility role that combines deep technical expertise with strong communication and influence across the organization.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical pricing of treaty reinsurance submissions across casualty, professional, and specialty lines, applying both experience and exposure rating methods

  • Price and evaluate proportional (quota share and surplus) and non-proportional (excess of loss) treaty and automatic facultative structures, including terms, conditions, limits, retentions, and reinstatement provisions

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance actuarial pricing models and tools to improve the accuracy, consistency, and efficiency of the pricing process

  • Incorporate catastrophe and other model output, loss-cost trends, and inflation into pricing to appropriately reflect peak-peril exposures

  • Partner with underwriting leadership and brokers on deal structuring, portfolio strategy, and profitability assessment for new and renewal business

  • Act as a key resource to senior leadership in monitoring and management portfolio of accounts 

  • Clearly communicate pricing recommendations, technical opinions, and analytical insights to underwriters, brokers, and senior management

  • Monitor rate adequacy, pricing trends, and portfolio performance, surfacing emerging findings to inform underwriting and business strategy

  • Contribute to portfolio roll-up and aggregation, and collaborate with reserving and capital teams to support planning, reserving, and profitability reviews

  • Ensure pricing work adheres to Actuarial Standards of Practice, CAS professional standards, and internal pricing governance and controls

  • Mentor and develop junior actuaries and analysts, sharing technical knowledge and best practices across the team

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background is required

  • Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) required; Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) preferred

  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant property & casualty actuarial experience, with 15 or more years preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in treaty reinsurance pricing, including experience and exposure rating across property, casualty, and specialty lines, is strongly preferred

  • Strong command of reinsurance pricing techniques and treaty structures (quota share, surplus, and excess of loss), including catastrophe loading and interpretation of catastrophe model output

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and persuasively to underwriters, brokers, and senior leadership

  • Proficiency with actuarial and data tools such as Excel, together with one or more of R, Python, or SQL; familiarity with reinsurance pricing platforms is a plus

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail and sound actuarial judgment

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality analysis under time-sensitive renewal deadlines

  • Collaborative team player who builds effective partnerships across underwriting, claims, reserving, and capital functions

  • Hybrid work arrangement requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office

  • Commitment to continuous learning and to developing the technical and professional skills of the broader team


Compensation:

Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, and skills. The base pay is just one component of Ascot’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus and other forms of discretionary compensation awarded by the Company. 

The annualized base pay range for this role is: $230,000 - $250,000
