About the Role:
Unite Us is seeking a self-driven, experienced Senior Manager of Software Engineering (SMSE). As a leader in the Technology team, you will be an important contributor in pushing forward the implementation of the company vision into a releasable and valuable product. You will help ensure that the team's technical direction is properly aligned with the department and company's architectural direction. In order to accomplish these tasks, you will need to cultivate a dynamic, ever-learning team culture that seeks to create value for customers in a continuous manner. Senior Software Engineering managers drive the simplification and optimization of concurrent project delivery, scheduling, and any processes that cross team boundaries. SMSEs proactively identify and mitigate risks before they become roadblocks. They demonstrate good judgment in how and when to escalate without damaging relationships.
SMSEs provide the larger picture and long-term perspective including the context behind business and technology choices. SMSEs understand the products and systems their team(s) own, limitations, scaling factors, boundary conditions, and reasons behind architectural decisions. They are mindful about the consequences of short-term solutions and make sure their impact on the long-term architecture is properly assessed. SMSEs use technical judgment to question proposals and test assumptions and help engineers learn how to make smart trade-offs. SSEMs define audit mechanisms and metrics that enable you to quickly explain the performance of their team(s).
What You'll Do:
- Lead the team developing a secure and interoperable platform that will be leveraged across all of products at Unite Us. Disseminate clear goals, context and communication of vision
- Review and manage team performance from technical and personnel perspective
- Assist every team member with individual goals and growth
- Always aim for affecting big improvements in the world and bring your own ideas
- Collaborate with product and other engineering teams to extend the platform
You're a great fit for this role if:
- BS/BA degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- At least 7+ years of experience in delivering high-quality software solutions
- At least 2+ years of direct management experience with product-focused engineering teams
- Expertise in people leadership, technical, operational change management
- Significant Agile experience
- Experience building RESTful APIs and integrating with external systems
- Deeply versed in modern web technologies
- Commitment to automated CI/CD pipelines and consistent, predictable delivery
- Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure
- Open communication and collaboration
- Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn software technologies such as Google Suite, Zoom, Slack, HubSpot, Asana, etc.

Environmental Job Requirements and Working Conditions:
- This position is remote, U.S.-based
- The target pay range for this role is: $170,000-$185,000. This salary range represents our target hiring range for this role. The proposed salary will be dependent on the candidate's skills, experience, and competencies, as well as location.
- All team members will be required to pass a background check which includes criminal, employment, and education verification
