Expedia Technology teams partner with our Product teams to create innovative products, services, and tools that deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that build loyalty and traveler satisfaction.


Our Loyalty engineering teams build the products and platforms that connect millions of travelers with meaningful rewards, benefits, and personalized experiences across Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo. By combining customer-facing experiences with scalable backend capabilities, we create seamless loyalty journeys across the traveler experience.


As Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering, you will lead a team delivering strategic loyalty initiatives across customer experiences and platform services. You will shape execution, develop engineering talent, influence technical direction, and partner across Product and Technology to create meaningful customer and business impact.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, coach, and develop software engineers while fostering an inclusive culture of ownership, learning, and innovation.
  • Deliver complex engineering initiatives supporting loyalty experiences and platform capabilities across Expedia Group brands.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and business stakeholders to define priorities, align roadmaps, and deliver customer value.
  • Communicate progress, dependencies, risks, and mitigation plans to senior leaders and executives.
  • Influence architectural decisions and guide scalable, reliable, and maintainable engineering solutions.
  • Build partnerships across teams to deliver loyalty capabilities spanning the traveler journey.
  • Help shape an integrated platform and experience organization that enables engineers to work across technologies and domains.
  • Provide technical leadership across distributed systems, APIs, and services supporting rewards, benefits, and traveler engagement.
  • Support engineering teams working with Kotlin, Java, React, Android, iOS, cloud-native technologies, and service-oriented architectures.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience leading software engineering teams in a technology organization.
  • Experience developing engineers and future leaders through coaching, feedback, and career support.
  • Technical background in software engineering, with experience in backend, platform, web, or mobile technologies.
  • Experience delivering complex, cross-functional initiatives from concept through execution.
  • Understanding of software architecture, system design, scalability, reliability, and engineering best practices.
  • Proficient communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience creating an inclusive environment where people can contribute and do their best work.

Preferred:

  • Experience with loyalty, rewards, benefits, personalization, or traveler engagement products.
  • Experience leading teams responsible for both customer-facing experiences and platform services.
  • Experience working with Kotlin or Java and cloud-native, distributed systems.
  • Experience guiding technical strategy across multiple brands, products, or technology domains.

The total cash range for this position in Rome is €73,000.00 to €102,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to €117,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
