Job Purpose
The Senior Payroll Manager directs the daily activities of Workday Payroll, timely resolution of payroll issues/errors, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and tax obligations, as well as compliance with internal policies and procedures and payroll audits.
Duties and responsibilities
- 5+ years of processing payroll using the Workday system, ensuring all employee data is accurate and up-to-date
- Oversee daily Payroll Department operations and personnel, consisting of Payroll Analysts.
- Act as the subject matter expert for all payroll functions, systems, and rules/regulations.
- Maintain and manage payroll vendor relationships with One Source Virtual and Collaborative Solutions. Ensure full utilization of payroll systems and applications
- Ensure all payroll operations are carried out efficiently, effectively, accurately, and expediently.
- Maintain internal payroll files and tables and develop custom reports to meet the requirements of company management and staff.
- Lead the continued implementation, improvement, and management of the company’s payroll system to ensure maximum payroll process and data analytics capability.
- Perform payroll-related testing of upgrades to the payroll system in coordination with other members of Human Resources.
- Establish, document, and manage payroll internal controls, emphasizing data integrity, reporting, security, and compliance.
- Audit payroll data as entered into the HRIS system and research and resolve audit flags for current and prior periods.
- Act as the key internal and external contact for audits of payroll, and provide support as necessary during SOX, 401(k), payroll, workers’ compensation, and HR audits.
- Maintain knowledge of all federal and state requirements and government reporting regulations affecting payroll, taxes, and garnishments.
- Assist in setting up company payroll tax IDs for new company locations.
- Set up, monitor, and prepare monthly payments for payroll withholding items such as, but not limited to garnishment and child support orders, as applicable.
- Monitor employee accruals and timesheets for accuracy and use independent judgment to research and resolve any discrepancies or errors.
- Interface with the rest of Human Resources, especially the Benefits team, to ensure accurate flow of information into Payroll.
- Interface with Human Resources teams to lead development of user documentation and delivery of Payroll training.
- Coach and develop the payroll team.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and work experience of 5 years minimum in Human Resources.
- 5+ years of payroll management experience, including multi-state payroll, payroll administration, and compensation.
- 3 + years of experience with Workday, and/or other payroll and timekeeping software. • Knowledge of database and HR systems and software.
- Ability to write, run, organize, and analyze queries, reports, and data. Knowledge of HR processes and data related to payroll and payroll laws and regulations.
- Must pass pre-employment screening.

- Previous experience in consumer finance or banking industry
